Pros

As others have mentioned, Lose It! really does have great benefits, and I'm proud of the benefits package Lose It! is able to offer its employees and family members. Check out the Lose It! jobs page for more details.

Cons

I'm disappointed to be sitting here writing this review. I like this company, but it's unfortunate that so much has fallen on deaf ears in recent months. Marketing is trying SO hard to push a positive image (which is their job, right?), but it's at the cost of authenticity and an actual desire to be better and change. It's pretty clear that marketing has written (or pushed colleagues to write) a lot of these 5 star reviews, and are now creating alt accounts to push real reviews to the bottom. Employees and members alike want to know - Is Marketing only putting up social media posts to look good, or can they stand behind their message and back it up? There are great people at Lose It!, but many have gotten caught up in things that don't matter at the end of the day. As others have mentioned, even back to a review posted in July of 2017, it is true that a number of people at the company were hired because they were friends from high school or college, though I do recognize that this issue is not new to startup culture. The problem is, it is also true that many former colleagues tried to bring in more diverse candidates, for example, a qualified Black woman interviewed for a data science job, who, at the end of the day was turned down because someone high up at the company wanted to hire their friend from college. And, because the person high up the ladder was white, his circle of friends is primarily white, and so the data scientist who ended up getting hired was white. THIS is gatekeeping. I am NOT claiming discrimination. BUT I do hope with every bone in my body that this is a wakeup call. Actions speak louder than words, and Lose It’s members and stakeholders are watching closely. This is your chance to start real change, and be proud of what you stand by. Not post for the sake of looking good and liking social media comments that put the company on a pedestal. Acknowledge comments from members that shine light to what we’re not getting right and challenge us to be better.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are sorry that you feel a lack of authenticity and progress with the changes we are making, as we are dedicated to creating a strong, inclusive culture at Lose It!. We have begun to take actions like forming a Diversity and Inclusion team whose first objective is to bring in training for the company so we can become more aware of the blindspots we have in our communications, hiring practices and cultural norms. These actions are just the beginning, and we hope that you will continue to share ideas and feedback with us as we work to improve the culture at Lose It!.

Pros

Lots of independence and control over work that makes a difference in the lives of millions of people

Cons

A little under resourced for how much we try to do. Could use a few more hires to do more

Pros

The biggest pro at this company is its transparency. From my experience, unless a question would violates someone's privacy, there is no question that will not receive a direct answer. It helps give me insight into what's going on in with the company big picture and gives me a sense of trust that the exec team is looking out for me. The company has amazing benefits. Since there are no investors to satisfy, Lose It! can focus on the two things that are most important: its users and its employees. And it shows with the amazing health care plan and the summer retreats to other countries (seriously... no other company does that) and too many other benefits to list here. The company is growing unlike other startups. With a focused, purpose-driven growth model, we have a controlled growth that allows for new hires to come in and have a more direct impact on the millions of users we are trying to help.

Cons

We did have some growing pains in the company culture as we grew from a small team into the company we have today. We're still working through those issues but I think the exec team has taken major efforts over the past year to eliminate those issues. Some of these issues have been noted in other reviews and I think they are being addressed. As I mentioned in the pros section, one of my favorite things about the company is its transparency. So if you are considering joining Lose It! and any reviews here are giving you pause, please don't dismiss us immediately. I encourage you to speak to us and ask the hard questions because we want to answer them.
