Pros

Great benefits travel ops profit sharing smart people good product wonderful customers

Cons

Lose It! attracts good people who want to do good for others. Unfortunately, it doesn't bring out the best in them. - It is a very politicized environment where titles go to friends and those who tout their accomplishments and complaints the loudest. Those close to management are promoted. - Very little psychological safety or freedom to voice concerns - Extreme aversion to talking about anything controversial, including active racist, sexist, homophobic, and political discourse that went unchecked. Not just a few times, but every week. - The marketing team is treated more like an in-house agency than a creative marketing team. - The brand has weakened. Any statements you see are the result of a bandwagon, not a change of heart. - The company tells a narrative about why employees leave that is not true. Ex: when someone leaves for HR/traumatic/bullying events or feeling excluded and ignored, they are painted as leaving for petty issues and a general non-culture fit. That couldn't be further from the truth. - When issues arise, information is moved around and people are shifted around the company, but not the underlying issue remains - there is not psychological safety at this company. People weren't given the power to stand for me. So now I stand for them.

Thank you for your thoughtful review and for providing us with constructive feedback. We are sorry to hear that your departure from the company was not on good terms, as we’re very grateful for the 5+ years of service you've given to our company. Your advice for management to “own up, let go of your egos and do better” has been heard. As we look in the mirror, we recognize we have room for growth. Hearing this direct feedback has been eye-opening and we are pulling these themes into our conversations daily as we work on making sustainable changes to ensure all of our employees feel included, safe, and have equal access and opportunity. We have taken steps towards this goal including: conducting a review of our current policies and procedures, creating a Diversity and Inclusion team, encouraging feedback including rolling out of a new tool where employees can provide feedback anonymously, enhanced human resource services, building partnerships with our local community and investing in an updated training curriculum for all of our employees focused on inclusion. Our employees are the backbone of our company and creating a safe place where we can all thrive is a top priority. We know we may make mistakes along the way but we are trying, listening, and learning. We are committed to this work and know that beyond words, our successes will be seen in our actions.

Pros

Lots of independence and control over work that makes a difference in the lives of millions of people

Cons

A little under resourced for how much we try to do. Could use a few more hires to do more

Pros

The biggest pro at this company is its transparency. From my experience, unless a question would violates someone's privacy, there is no question that will not receive a direct answer. It helps give me insight into what's going on in with the company big picture and gives me a sense of trust that the exec team is looking out for me. The company has amazing benefits. Since there are no investors to satisfy, Lose It! can focus on the two things that are most important: its users and its employees. And it shows with the amazing health care plan and the summer retreats to other countries (seriously... no other company does that) and too many other benefits to list here. The company is growing unlike other startups. With a focused, purpose-driven growth model, we have a controlled growth that allows for new hires to come in and have a more direct impact on the millions of users we are trying to help.

Cons

We did have some growing pains in the company culture as we grew from a small team into the company we have today. We're still working through those issues but I think the exec team has taken major efforts over the past year to eliminate those issues. Some of these issues have been noted in other reviews and I think they are being addressed. As I mentioned in the pros section, one of my favorite things about the company is its transparency. So if you are considering joining Lose It! and any reviews here are giving you pause, please don't dismiss us immediately. I encourage you to speak to us and ask the hard questions because we want to answer them.
