Pros

- Smart colleagues who are invested in getting smarter/better - Unbelievable benefits and vacation time - Good work/life balance - A real impact on our users; knowledge that my work makes life better for other people - A leadership team that is open to growing and aware that they don't always know best; admits when they make a wrong call, explain their reasoning for the call, and how they'll be better in the future - I perceive that the culture has been shifting away from "work hard, play hard;" I think this is appropriate

Cons

A lot of our challenges stem from being a company that's transitioned from ~12 very tight-knit colleagues into a larger company. We've been working to grow up, keeping the good parts of those early years and counter-acting the negative things that may slip in and impact our current operations. - When we were a smaller company, I think the average employee worked harder than they do now - We need to continue to get better at onboarding new employees to make them feel more integrated more quickly - We need to remove any "clique culture" and make sure we're aware of and working to address our faults - I find it frustrating when I'm working hard and others with less work to do gather in our social area for a drink mid-afternoon

We’re proud to work at Lose It! too, we’re glad you feel the same. Thank you for your trust as we continue to learn, ask questions and listen to our employees. Our goal is to be transparent in our work, and although everyone may not agree on an answer, at least they will know how we got to it and understand what decisions were made to get there. As a start-up, we definitely had a different pace and energy to the way we work today. Having said that, we don’t ever want to lose sight of what got us here - scrappy, resourceful employees who roll up their sleeves to get things done. “That’s not my job” are words we just don’t like to hear. We expect everyone to contribute to our success. We are learning every day and aware of the dynamic that can form between employees who have been here from the beginning and employees who have recently joined. This is not through any interest in creating a clique or excluding others but the connection and friendship between co-workers that gets made by spending a lot of time together. We have grown fast in the last several years and know that inclusion is more important than ever in our work. This includes thoughtful onboarding to ensure all employees feel welcome and a valuable part of the team, whether they started in year one or year ten. We will be even more vigilant in our efforts this year as we are also navigating the dynamic of working remotely to ensure we are actively including each other in ways that would be a lot easier if we were in the same office together.

Pros

Lots of independence and control over work that makes a difference in the lives of millions of people

Cons

A little under resourced for how much we try to do. Could use a few more hires to do more

Pros

The biggest pro at this company is its transparency. From my experience, unless a question would violates someone's privacy, there is no question that will not receive a direct answer. It helps give me insight into what's going on in with the company big picture and gives me a sense of trust that the exec team is looking out for me. The company has amazing benefits. Since there are no investors to satisfy, Lose It! can focus on the two things that are most important: its users and its employees. And it shows with the amazing health care plan and the summer retreats to other countries (seriously... no other company does that) and too many other benefits to list here. The company is growing unlike other startups. With a focused, purpose-driven growth model, we have a controlled growth that allows for new hires to come in and have a more direct impact on the millions of users we are trying to help.

Cons

We did have some growing pains in the company culture as we grew from a small team into the company we have today. We're still working through those issues but I think the exec team has taken major efforts over the past year to eliminate those issues. Some of these issues have been noted in other reviews and I think they are being addressed. As I mentioned in the pros section, one of my favorite things about the company is its transparency. So if you are considering joining Lose It! and any reviews here are giving you pause, please don't dismiss us immediately. I encourage you to speak to us and ask the hard questions because we want to answer them.
