Pros

Monday thru Friday, 9-5 work week except when they have a 2 week clearance sale and do not pay you for the extra hours worked over the weekend. They are flexible with your schedule as far as taking the occasional long lunch or doctor/dentist appointment.

Cons

They pay as little as they can get away with and your commission rate is low effectively frustrating you when you recieve your quarterly commission check. Invetory software is outdated and user unfriendly. At sales meetings, they solicit your ideas and concerns and those of your co-workers, then never impement any change. This reinforces the perception that all they care about is sales numbers.

I'm sorry that you feel Stark management is egotistical. Our believe is that we should take credit for nothing and credit our employees for all company accomplishments. It is my mission to help change this belief. At Stark we believe that employees need a strong work-life balance in order to be happy and we encourage that through our 9-530 work week (with 30 min lunch break) and our PTO policy. Your statement about not paying for extra hours worked at clearance sales in inaccurate as we pay all salespeople by commission at these sales and all non-sales employees OT. Regarding pay, we compensate all sales employees fairly based on industry standards and in the carpet division we pay higher than the industry standards. Our inventory software was outdated but we've recently implemented a new ERP system that is much easier to use. Additionally, we are investing hundreds of thousands of dollars in custom building a web interface for our staff to use to make their lives as easy as possible. My focus is on creating a simple Point Of Sale system for our sales staff to improve the sales and customer service experience. Regarding sales meetings, we often get great ideas. Sales numbers are important but a happy sales force is what drives sales and that is where we focus our energies. We actually have a program within our company that we pay CASH to employees who submit ideas that we have not thought of once they are implemented. If you have any additional suggestions please email suggestions@starkcarpet.com. I look forward to hearing your ideas. As a company, we have invested in an ESOP for our employees. This Employee Stock Option Plan means that the Stark Family has essentially sold a percentage of the company to it's employees. New shares get issued to employees every year, and these shares rise in value as the company makes money. Once the employee is no longer with the company then he or she will get paid for their shares. This is a FREE benefit for employees and actually cost the company A LOT of money to maintain, but we feel it is in the best interest of our employees. I've recently been made aware that many employees are not aware of this free benefit and am putting together a presentation that I will personally be giving to everyone this summer. Lastly, salespeople do have cedicated customer support both in the showrooms and in our Calhoun warehouse. We have invested a lot of time and money in structuring a support department for salespeople that allows them to focus on their clients. The last couple years may have been rough because we implemented a new computer system, but now that is behind us and we are focused again on making the sales process efficient and effortless. If you have any additional feedback please email me directly at cstark@starkcarpet.com

Pros

Stark has a good reputation within the industry, so most designers will engage... not incredibly hard to get appointments

Cons

The prospecting process is fundamentally broken. While there is a CRM in place, it’s rarely used properly. The showroom manager seldom updates account assignments, and account managers rarely log emails, calls, or meaningful activity. As a result, when someone uncovers an account that hasn’t been touched in years and successfully re-engages the client, another rep can easily claim they’ve been actively managing the relationship all along. The current system disproportionately benefits long-term employees while also reducing the need for management oversight and accountability leadership.

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I appreciate your recognition of Stark’s reputation within the industry and the relationships our teams have built over the years. I also take your concerns regarding CRM usage, account ownership, and accountability seriously, as a transparent and consistent prospecting process is important to both fairness and client service. We recognize there are opportunities to improve how account activity is tracked and managed, and we are actively working to strengthen accountability and operational consistency across the organization. As an active employee, I’d also encourage you to continue sharing your perspective directly with myself, your manager or leadership team so we can better address these concerns constructively. Thank you again for your honest feedback and for being part of Stark. Best, Chad Stark CEO
