Pros

Pretty standard company. Not amazing not terrible. Salary is on the lower end for the area (San Francisco). Pretty basic bare bones benefits plan besides swinerton stock. 401k match (contributions adjustable on principle website) Swinerton stock is exclusively given out as a portion of your bonus 1/3rd as a normal employ 1/2 of bonus for shareholder employee- which you are typically inducted after 5 years. Rest of bonus is paid out cash & taxed at 45%. Health Insurance is just the most basic plan. 3-5% raise annually is typical every July, bonuses 5-10% typical every March. (Tho healthcare is an outlier division that receives about double in both categories due to the complexity & high stress). Not as much nepotism or ethical problems as one may see in some other companies. Labors have a serious issue of backstabbing, badmouthing behind peoples back etc. More of a culture problem. Field Management are great- super talented & experienced folks. Project management side not so much. Mid-upper management can be rather unpleasant to deal with at times especially when they get up in your business but let you do your thing as long as the schedule & budget is in check. You’re not quite just a number here- more of a glorified number. Wonderful people in all groups which are not to be discounted. Surprising amount of competition and even conflict between various regions/divisions/self-perform groups but mostly office politics, small petty stuff nothing new or too problematic. Lots of flexibility. Wonderful Div Manager. Hours vary from job to job & time to time. Sometimes is 6-10’s sometimes is 5-12’s sometimes it’s 5-6’s most of the time it’s 5-8’s- even had a decent amount of remote days. Most seem to top out around 200k-250k by career end (20-30 years) and progressing up the ladder is very difficult unless you put in 110% AND constantly push on management that you deserve a promotion due to excelling at responsibilities above your pay grade. Offices are pretty basic- not many perks besides say free deliver on doordash that no one uses. Not as many bells & whistles or young talent as some of the more up & coming GC’s. Company phone + company laptop (iPhone SE & a basic dell or thinkpad) supers get trucks & PM’s get a ~$600/mo car allowance. Gas cards & parking permits are not all to common dependent on the situation. Work life balance is alright. Commuting is what really kills your time which is why higher pay and better benefits and perks are certainly warranted. All in all I am content with my choice but certainly not blown away. At the end of the day it’s just a job.

Pros

Great projects and some great people.

Cons

Too many bad apples ruin it for others. Safety is a complete joke, don’t do their job not even the bare minimum only have the job because they have the certs but any random is competent to do that job. Laziness kills motivation, get rid of lazy workers
