Pros

Great salary, But money is not everything and colleagues are good and You will get what you need in terms of devices and tools also. It's very good company for those who don't care much about technical and want to settle for life with good money.

Cons

No learning, it says R&D but culture of work is just little above service company. You will realize if we are talking about if you go to Emulex from a good product company.

Layoffs- Moving Jobs to India

Business Outlook

Pros

Some good technology remaining from previous development efforts. A few remaining great employees- but they are not happy.

Cons

Low performing Executive Management: * The culture is crumbling. Declining ethics. Declining teamwork. "Law of the Jungle". Do whatever you must to survive today. * IMO new CEO has surrounded himself with "Yes People" who blindly support him and ignore glaringly obvious problems (especially in engineering) until it is too late. "Manage Up" is the best way to survive. * Forget about a promotion in engineering, IMO. You need to be a personal friend of the EVP and/or live in Roseville where she lives. Many of her direct reports, sr. level new hires (architects, Directors, VPs, etc.) and virtually all of the recent engineering promotions are merely personal friends of hers who have contributed minimal product revenue to the company. Technical qualifications and a track record of producing results are irrelevant factors for promotions on her team. * Engineering programs change frequently. Engineers are in flux with no job stability. Engineers work 60 or 70 hours per week- including weekends and holidays- then the project is cancelled and some of the team is RIF'd (in the US) and they turn around and hire people in India- cheaper, I guess. * Frequent layoffs. The affected headcount is below certain levels so that they do not trigger the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) laws. The result is a constant stream of small RIFs which create high anxiety for everyone except the highest levels of management who have lucrative "Golden Parachute" employment contracts. * More layoffs and cost-cutting are apparently being planned. The new CEO has made comments to the press and to shareholders that he will continue to cut expenses while his personal compensation increases steadily.
