Pros

I personally loved my tenure at Enova, especially having come from start-ups and leaving Enova to return to a start-up. Enova has flexible hours, summer hours, endless food, fun team outings, great Christmas parties, lunch food, Chill Rooms with massage chairs, massages, manicures, haircuts, dry cleaning and more! The employees were all intelligent and congenial. The location is easily accessible by public transportation and they've just moved to a modern, open floor plan.

Cons

Once the new CEO came onboard, management and team structures began to really break down. The CEO was unfriendly, condescending, and unapproachable. His decision-making logic was rather odd at times, such as the time he made all employees come into work during a blizzard when the rest of Chicago was shut down, including pub trans. Rarely does that ever happen, and yet our flexible company required attendance on that day. Promotions are hardly recommended as a result of data-supported results and are more of a popularity contest.

Pros

Colleagues are very talented Relaxed dress code Diverse set of personalities Coworkers are fun to work with

Cons

Exit Survey standards are like playing Russian Roulette Improvement Plan No Formal Training Section Managers are out of touch Upper management is even more out of touch. The company doesn't care about its employees. Everyone's seen as being just as replaceable as an auto part. The live chat department only cares about numbers and does not care about developing their reps. We all understand that standards must be in place. However when the corrective procedures aren't actually correcting anything there's a problem. There's absolutely no formal training in this role and management actually believes that placing new hires next to a bunch of reps and observing their chats is training. WHAT A JOKE! The job is nothing more than a fly by the seat of your pants job where you only learn by screwing up. Then when you screw up because you either weren't trained on a procedure, or receive conflicting information from different managers and even company website, you're punished for it. If I didn't have a family of four to feed, I would have walked out of this job yesterday. However, I'm screwed because I could be the next rep to get fired over missed punctuation and hold time, even when I handled the chat properly.

Pros

I love the people I work with. I'm a smart guy & I like working with smart people. When work gets to be too much I'm able to work from home, take days off (I have ~ 5 weeks of vacation every year), even take advantage of a paid sabbatical program. Compensation has been high for the market historically & includes bonuses & other incentives.

Cons

Enova is a company that's experiencing some growing pains. We started out small and grown exponentially over the course of the last ten years. Over the past two we've been really doing the work to come to terms with the size of our organization. That means that we've had a number of reorganizations, shuffles, & the like. Sometimes documentation is spotty, & the best you can get is "go talk to so & so, she'll know." Still, I'd take the growing pains of a successful company over the stodgy process of an old company any day.
