Pros

There are some awesome engineers There are a couple good managers and leads Enova Decisions is really the only team you should join

Cons

1. In the last 3 years 20-21 managers have left software engineering. 2. Promotion is really hard when your manager keeps changing and it is essentially popularity contest amongst SE managers 3. Non technical engineer managers force their opinions on engineers technical decisions 4. Asking to change teams can get you punished 5. The company tries to encourage greater diversity but parts of SE are only interested in compliance to 'orders' 6. A public company so the directive is to squeeze every last dollar from poor Americans, for shareholders 7. Business/Product dictates what engineering should do, with little flexibility 8. There is minimal movement to remove tech debt, there is no plan to improve the software, real RandD is minimal

At more than 250 people Enova has one of the largest (and the best in my opinion) Tech teams in Chicago. That team has grown tremendously in the last four years, a reflection of both the growth of our company and our investment in building great technology to serve our customers. Like any startup that gets big and any team that grows, we need new skillsets and new experience. Some of that experience comes from outside but a lot of it is investment in our people and giving them a chance to learn and grow. As the CTO I do a 1:1 with everyone on the team each year and my first two questions are always "where do you want to go?" and "what are you not working on today that will help you get there?" That's lead us to a team that has engineers and engineering leadership with deep experience in building scalable systems, great user experiences, and high-performing teams. As one of the first ever online lenders, Enova has had to pioneer a lot of the technology we use. That hasn't changed -- today that experimentation focused on things like machine learning, electronic auctions, mobile apps. We're building a business for the long haul, and that requires great technology and a great team to build it.

Pros

The schedule is nice for a work life balance. That seems to be the only pro I can think of.

Cons

Rip you off on your bonus horribly. Literally the worst job, I have worked for. They hire you threw a temp agency and they tell you it takes 3 months to convert and get your bonus, IT DOESN'T. They charge YOU per call so if you're doing your job properly you get charged per call which comes from your monthly bonus. Which is insane. It's a corporate slave factory. Everyday I worked there they had people in and out of there. They lie when you apply and when you get there it's not what you sign up for it.

We appreciate your feedback. We routinely review bonus structures to ensure they align with the responsibilities and goals for each department, as well as our 'Customer First' value, making adjustments when necessary. We also are proud of our company culture and want employees to feel comfortable being themselves at work. We wish your experiences at Enova were more favorable, but feedback like this is valuable and will help us improve.

Pros

Good pay for management. And if you are white becoming a part of management is a plus. Temps make more than permanent employees.

Cons

Very few blacks are promoted. A few were recently demoted. They do not respect their 10 plus employees and a lot are leaving for less stressful jobs. No moral in Gurnee customer service.
