Pros

I worked here for two years, and that's two years of my life I'll never get back. This company will take your spirit and mental health and crush it and then throw you to the wolves (their customers are the wolves). Constant calls all day everyday, when customers demand a manager we have to lie and say they aren't available because the managers don't want to take calls. They want you to take the brunt of the customers anger. They promise you bonuses based on performance but I collected thousands of dollars for them and even when I switched to the collections department for the bonus they promised it was never more than $400 A QUARTER. There is not a Spanish speaking department because they claim there aren't enough Spanish speaking customers who call in, this is a LIE I had a minimum of 8 Spanish speakers call in on a daily basis. In the two years I was there I had four managers up and quit out of nowhere and the manager who's team I was sent to was a horrendous person who had her favorites and treated the rest of us like trash. She's 100% the reason I eventually quit, never adjusted my time when it was their systems constantly failing, get ready for your call system to crash consistently all day long and for them to reprimand you for it. If I could name her I would but then this review wouldn't be anonymous. Quality Assurance is garbage, get ready to have them listen to your worst possible calls and then grade you on eight of those PER MONTH. If you fail enough of those they will fire you. If you stand up for yourself to a rude customer (and they are 90% of your daily interactions) you will be reprimanded. I had a customer call in and harass everyone he came into contact with, racial slurs, colorful swear words you name it and their solution was not holding him accountable and removing the ability for us to collect his debt instead. This company only pays a measly $16 and they have you collecting THOUSANDS of dollars a day. DO NOT WORK FOR THEM. Trust me even if you're desperate for a paycheck this isn't the answer.

Cons

Everything. The lies management feeds you, the lack of support from your manager when you have actual things you need help with. You are a number, replaceable and their high turnover is a testament to this. Health insurance is abysmal and the pay is worse.

Pros

I feel like I dodged so many bullets to get here--after a year, I still haven't seen any signs of the traditional tech woes. There's no crunch, there's no overtime, my boss encourages me to take time off and to maintain a healthy work / life balance. Management is smart and engaged with the developers; they genuinely care about setting up manageable expectations. Great PMs, who have a real understanding of both business and code. Autonomy to steer your career based on your interests, to work on projects that appeal to you. All this, plus the normal host of tech perks--excessive salary, yearly bonus, ping pong table, cold brew and craft beer on tap, &c. &c. Hybrid work schedule, with the option to go full remote (which might be nice, but I'd honestly miss the cold brew).

Cons

They always say they devote a ton of effort into ensuring competitive compensation, but I bet it wouldn't be hard to find higher salaries. For me, at 45, $85K for SE1 is more than enough, and I'm not interested in selling this work environment for more. Maybe if you're fresh out of college and want your first million you might prefer a startup or something. Also, it is FinTech, so it's deeply tied into the corporate / capitalist model. Specifically, a healthy percentage of the paycheck comes from lending money at high interest to poor people. They claim that they honestly trying to help people, and are taking pains to ensure that the customers have better lives for having met us. Seems possible, but that's also what anyone would claim, right? I honestly think they're doing ok with this--certainly they could be so much worse--but it's hard not to worry that the money's slightly tainted.
