Pros

Work in a demanding field with other intelligent workers. Epic hires the best and brightest and the work environment is fast paced and driven. Stand out individuals have a great chance for fast advancement that is not typically available. You also have the ability to learn and do continuing education as it relates directly to your job role

Cons

Work-life balance essentially equates to how you can mold your life around work. The environment is also an 'all hands on deck' atmosphere every week, week in, week out. Lots of new people means that your manager might only be a year or two your senior. Not a lot of flexibility or benefits added if you stay for any amount of time.

Pros

You will get to work with really interesting people and the pay is great for someone fresh out of college. You also have the chance to take ownership of issues and change the way things are done. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the changes that are blessed by the powers that be involve everyone on your team having to do extra work.

Cons

Rather than letting the people they hire largely on the basis of their intelligence act independently, there is a heavy focus on following processes. Management is constantly inventing new ones, which you can either follow and stay that many more hours late per week, or ignore and be reprimanded. Epic also will not write you letters of recommendation, which can hurt when job hunting in the future.

Pros

the campus my peers the free snacks in the break room living in Madison

Cons

The upper management does not care about you and neither does your TL (your direct supervisor). They're only concerned with the customer. We have been berated at meetings about how frequently we turn down client requests. Their message: try harder. Have they looked at our Outlook calendar? It's packed to the brim, we work over 10 hours a day, and almost everybody works through their lunch time. I can't tell if the company stopped trying to retain people because they've given up or if they've ever tried at all. I know I did not feel valued and did not feel an incentive to stay. Also the culture is awful. We're told during orientation that if someone does something good, we should send them an email and CC their TL; if someone does something bad, we should send them a message and BCC their TL. People have no problem going straight to your TL without talking to you first. It's like we're in kindergarden. The company is also super secretive and would like to project the image that we're all a bunch of saints to the outside world. We get reprimanded if someone emails our HR about our rowdy behavior at airports or drunken behaviors around town. In fact the company likes to remind us that we should avoid drinking when in a group of fellow Epic employees. Oh and we're not adequately trained or fully prepared to take on our first customers. It makes months 3-9 very stressful.
