Pros

Good people, benefits, food, interesting campus, competitive salary. If you want to find a decent employer and work here until you retire, then there are definitely worse options. If you want to work for a year or two and then move on (such as to med school), this is also quite nice.

Cons

Old software, lots of legacy code, you will be very busy. Some departments are well managed, some are very poorly managed.

Pros

- IS (project managers) are paid well - the campus is goofy and fun (although as IS you travel so much that sadly, you barely get to enjoy it) - coworkers are generally young and motivated - casual dress on campus except for select weeks - the food! #1 best thing about working at Epic

Cons

- work life balance can be a struggle for IS - projects are intensely stressful and Epic employees are constantly doing more and working more hours as smaller hospitals (read: with less IT staff and lower talent) are installing the software - the CEO is unpredictable - lacks trust in its employees for random things. For example, I would travel three weeks out of a month but was rarely allowed to work from home. We used to have this privilege but it was taken away. - they encourage you to stay so deciding the job isn’t for you is tough - your 401K contribution depends on how long you work at Epic and the vesting is done at the end of the calendar year so it doesn’t necessarily correspond to when you leave, just the number of years you worked there at end of the calendar year. Your relocation money is tied to how long you stay at Epic.
