The Definitive PM Review - READ!!!

Pros

- High starting salary and ability to seriously inflate your salary. I was making double my friends and left Epic with a 15% salary increase for a similar role with more flexibility - Serious responsibility and autonomy. You own your day and your project. Definitely some micromanaging with time logging but mostly you do your thing - Really good people for the most part - Rub shoulders with customer leadership and execs - amazing health insurance. I had a few kids and paid $0 for everything. - Great place to start, dive in, work hard, make great money, and then leave.

Cons

- High rate of turnover due to unsustainable workload, travel, and internal work. Lots of people have left and Epic has responded by hiring a bunch of new people with zero experience. Customers realize the people they’re working with are new and know nothing at this point. - To the point above - there is zero mentorship at Epic. You won’t find many people with substantial industry experience before Epic that can show you the ropes and network. Your “mentors” are fellow PM’s who have been there slightly longer than you - Great benefits with strings attached. Literally every benefit has an entire page of disclaimers as to how it could taken away from you for any reason. Paternity leave is 2 weeks at 50% pay because it’s unfair to single employees….it’s not somewhere you can stay long and build a career. - you will be asked to do more work for no additional pay - It’s total luck of the draw what project and senior project manager you get. Those two factors determine whether you hate life or not. - If your TL does not like you or go to bat for you, you will rank poorly and not receive good raises. Raises are a complete black box and you have no insight into how it works.
