Pros

-Made a scary amount of money -Enjoyed working with the customers and co-workers around my tenure -Good way to get into entry-level tech so you can enjoy a reasonable, remote job later with less cry. Epic is infamous in the EHR and tech spaces in general

Cons

-Insane workloads, heavy hours, mediocre benefits and PTO. Some on here are saying "Just say no to things you dumb agreeable college students." I promise you will be shown the door if you say no to anything at all. -You really have no idea what the work is like here until you are 6 months into the role. Recruitment doesn't do a good job of telling you what the role entails (TS or PM especially). They also don't tell you that they will constantly shift expectations to your detriment and expect you to say yes to everything. -Management has embraced micro-management. It has gotten far worse since my start in 2023. Expect to have every hour you spent or plan on spending scrutinized. You time log (as salary?!?!). It used to be flexible but now it's a 9-5. They've also reduced WFH options. They've reinforced the 45-hour minimum as an expectation. Plan on spending more than that as a newbie and for travel. -Campus/food/culture is overrated (sorry culinary). Culture is a facade to hide all the sad -Higher tenured folks (3+) were judgy, condescending, and generally unhelpful. They will sometimes report you to your TL (manager) if they feel your questions are stupid. "Just ask someone if you don't know what you're doing" -The work is challenging and you are given no legroom by management. I don't care which background you come from. I know so many exceptional people that don't succeed and get the sad. It has nothing to do with your IQ and everything to do with personality, connections and being the yes-man. They don't really want critical thinkers, they want blind followers. I'm being asked to leave after refusing to embrace policy changes btw. -Tears of Joy-

Pros

- Lots of responsibility/autonomy very early on, you will learn a LOT of soft skills very quickly which will open up a lot of doors that may not have been possible without Epic. - Nice campus, individual offices, and fantastic food. - Co-workers are generally awesome. Smart, motivated, and friendly people. Everyone is willing to help. - Sense of purpose in work - end goal is to improve patient care - Truly amazing salary after first annual raise - Really easy to make friends when starting out

Cons

- Generally very overworked. The hours add up quickly especially when traveling. On top of this, having to navigate a complicated system and present functionality to customers with very little experience are extremely daunting tasks - For all the talk of how important Epic's "culture" is, the company culture is generally pretty bad and toxic. Despite all the amazing people that work here, everyone gets sucked into this 'work as much possible' mentality and the cult-y feeling is very strong too - Very limited remote options, most of the time you are expected in office five days a week. I often drive in just to sit and take zoom calls with customers across the country all day. It makes no sense and everyone knows it, but no one in management is willing to stand up to the CEO who is stuck in her own ways and doesn't seem to fully understand why people are unhappy - Speaking of upper management, they live in their own world and disregard employee feedback - Random process changes with very little critical thinking put in behind those decisions - Not very much PTO

Incredibly Stressful

Pros

I met some great people at Epic. Everyone gets a mentor, and I really liked my mentor. I don't work at the company anymore, but I still keep in touch with my mentor. I also had other relationships with people who were always willing to help me figure things out. I could not have made it as long as I did without them.

Cons

So, when I was applying at Epic, I was reading other reviews, and I noticed many people saying that Epic will demand of you very long hours and may work you to the bone. I thought, maybe if I set up boundaries with my time, I can make it work. So I only worked 45-50 hours a week most of the time. But I could never get done my workload in that time, which caused lots of stress. But if I worked more than this, I didn't have time to take care of myself outside of work and also ended up stressed. I couldn't find a way to take care of myself in this job, and the good pay just wasn't worth it. I was also originally hired as a technical writer. One month after I started, the writing team was disbanded and I was told I would start software testing instead. With little to no training, I was thrown into software testing with a full work load. Whenever I couldn't get my load done, because I was completely in over my head, I was talked to about my time management. As if perfect time management would just solve everything. Admittedly, my time management wasn't great. But it was mostly because I had been worn down into a shell of myself, and I just couldn't keep managing my time at a near impossible rate while feeling so incredibly burnt out.
