Pros

The most positive thing I can say is that I am no longer employed at Erlanger Health System. There are good people from time to time but they don't last long. I had a couple of great bosses when I was there and there were some executives who actually cared about people, but they're all gone now.

Cons

The environment is the most toxic imaginable. There is no respect for the individual and they waste money on ridiculous "programs" to improve employee satisfaction. I remember when they hired experts to come in and teach employees how to be nice. Thousands upon thousands of dollars later, and penalizing employees for not carrying papers to remind them to be nice to each other, it didn't make an ounce of difference in the toxicity that hovers there.

Pros

Great Co-Workers, RN's are encouraged to do what is best for their patients, but the nurse to patient ratio is outrageous. Most nurses have to stay WAY beyond their shift to catch up on paperwork and other non nursing functions they are commanded to perform, because there are too many non-hands-on people.

Cons

There are too many Management type people. Why does this complex need 19 vice presidents and associate vice presidents plus department heads plus assistant department heads plus? Every vice president doesn't hold the title of V.P., but they are paid the salary just the same. It is ridiculous how many NON-hands on people there are around here. These people hunt for things to do, or they hide in their small offices. When they do come out of hiding, they try to micromanage what they stumble upon. Top heavy management and not enough hands on bedside people.

Pros

The insurance benefits are okay, but it seems each year, the coverage and network shrinks while the cost increases. Some of my co-workers are great, others not so much.

Cons

Every day is stressful and a challenge. My department is GROSSLY understaffed. As people leave, the work is simply put on the backs of the employees still there with no increase in pay. The division of work is not balanced in my department. I am doing the work that four people used to perform (I wish I could say I'm exaggerating...I'm not), while others in my department can slack off and take three lunches and multiple other breaks throughout the day. Most days, my lunch is eaten at my desk while I'm working, and I'm lucky to get a couple of bathroom breaks. Management is clueless and out of touch with the peons breaking their backs doing the actual work. All they care about is the bottom line.
