Pros

- Rare to work on a product/at a company whose success is a direct function of the amount of good it does for the world - The value delivered to the user is uniquely profound and enduring - The team is extremely strong, across the board, and the company has done a fantastic job recruiting, ensuring that new hires are adding to the culture while elevating the caliber of the team - Industry dynamics are favorable; the size of the market is massive, incumbents are slow and disincentivized to evolve - The caliber of investors is extraordinary - Leadership team doesn't shy away from admitting mistakes and has demonstrated the ability to learn and adapt rapidly

Cons

- Typical startup growing pains including having to make trade-offs between building features to sustain rapid growth and investing in the ideal, scalable infrastructure. - Organizational bias towards less process led to the slower than optimal establishment of formal communication channels and space for knowledge sharing

Pros

The company is growing extremely fast in every dimension. The quality of the team is constantly increasing as more and more intelligent and accomplished people are joining Ethos. The majority of the growth has happened in the last 15 months and everyone has done a great job in scaling with the growth in terms of people and processes. Every single team is constantly getting better and better in its execution. In engineering, some really senior engineers from really solid companies have joined and working hard on not only shipping features fast but also upgrading our tech stack, infrastructure, design system, data, security, etc. There are still pains but given the size of the team, everyone is doing a phenomenal job in scaling with this crazy growth. The leadership team takes in a lot of feedback and is constantly adapting culture, strategy, and tactics based on the feedback. This is clearly a tier-1 startup and I am excited to be a part of this.

Cons

Things are growing very fast, which is bound to bring some chaos adjusting to this growth. The company takes a lot of bets and sometimes when these bets do not pan out, it could be disheartening. The infrastructure, processes, and communication is still evolving and needs more work to continue to scale with this rapid growth.

Pros

- Ethos has some of the smartest and most hard working people I've ever worked with. It's an extremely high performance team. I've worked at companies in the past where I have to pick up other people's slack, but haven't experienced that here yet - Management and the founders are pretty open to feedback - There isn't much politics. People are really results-oriented and are usually pretty collaborative. No one really has an ego and everyone is nice. - Free breakfast lunch and dinner

Cons

- People who join and don't meet the high performance standard aren't given a lot of time to improve. I've seen some coworkers leave in just a few months.. it can be a team morale killer - More career development. Personal stipends for classes/training have to be approved individually. At other companies, I used to just get a flat amount per year. There's also not many training opportunities - Priorities can shift quickly. One day one thing is the highest priority, and next day the another thing is. I've spent time working hard at one thing only to find it is no longer important. I know it's a startup, but still it's still frustrating - Founders are young and lack experience, but they do a good job at listening to feedback
