Pros

They take a chance on new coders.

Cons

Micromanagement is a way of life for the department. The "culture" of the organization is: Unless you are in direct patient care, you are worthless. Expect to be "thrown under the bus" at the drop of a hat by management. They bend over backwards to make providers happy, even using questionable reimbursement policies when a surgeon throws a temper tantrum. HR will act as if they care, but in the end, they are there only to protect leadership, and leadership is there to protect the bottom line. Expect to work "optional" massive over time, and to have your PTO denied. Or approved, but you'll be expected to take along a personal laptop and clock in at least some of the time. Productivity standards are vague, but you will be put on probation for not meeting them. Training is next to nothing, yet you will get in trouble for not knowing the workflows well enough.

A public district hospital that ignores it's mission.

Pros

Dedicated co-workers. Pretty hospital campus. Very good cafateria choices. Many capital improvement projects.

Cons

Evergreen is an institution rife with hypocricy and mismanagement. It's stated mission is to "advance the health of the community it serves", yet over the past five years it has terminated myriad public health contracts with King County that have provided life saving services to aging, disabled and low income populations. It also ranks dead last among area public district hospitals in the percentage of charity care to total revenue that it provides to the community.
