The Company Has Soooo Much Potential, but Leadership Seems Doomed

Pros

The company has great benefits. The mission of the company is inspiring. Many great colleagues...but unfortunately, most have either been laid off or smartly exited.

Cons

The company grew extremely fast during Covid. Once Covid slowed down and the Covid testing kits weren't in demand, the company starting slashing jobs. Leadership obviously didn't plan well. As a result, so many kind, dedicated, and smart employees were laid off. The GM and COO come across as extremely fake and definitely not interested in understanding the teams that work below them. It's very unfortunate.

Pros

Great benefits, work from home, and AMAZING talent on the project management and account management teams.

Cons

1. Failed Merger - The merger between 3 entities has been an absolute disaster (and I've only been here for half of it). The lack of forethought and planning has caused angry clients, a mass exodus of employees, and major burnout among the employees still standing. 2. Lack of Transparency - In uncertain economic times, the entire organization was given reassurances that there would not be layoffs and that the company was financially stable...only to experience layoffs citing missed revenue goals as the cause a month later.... 3. BURN OUT BURN OUT BURN OUT - The amount of time it takes to get one task accomplished at EW is unlike anything I've ever experienced. Teams work AGAINST one another - making it impossible to launch projects on time, provide deliverables to clients, or meet performance goals. It is exhausting to fight with cross functional teams and sucks any joy out of the job. Especially, when you're constantly receiving attitude during internal conversations only to get berated by clients due to the lack of follow-through on what they were promised in the sales process. We continue to lose great talent because everyone has lost their 'fight'. 4. No upward mobility - There's nowhere to go and it will stay that way for the foreseeable future.

Pros

1) The mission is incredible - and you’ll meet incredibly talented people who believe in it. 2) A chance to make an impact by focusing on supporting the health and wellness of consumers who need access to certain offerings in this product suite. 3) Great views of the Austin skyline. 4) Tasty snacks!

Cons

1) Snacks are riddled with almonds, which is surprising given the high levels of almond sensitivities for the general population. 2) The mission is subjugated to shiny objects that lack returns for people or the business. This is clearly a “first start-up” for most of the leadership team, who don’t really know how to drive outcomes or create tech products. 3) Sadly, management does not believe in empathy, building people up, or even building relationships with the rank and file. It makes sense when you realize that you are strictly seen as a cog - establishing a real relationship for them could be dangerous for their wellbeing. 4) Irrationally and harmfully to their own success, management does not even believe in measurement concepts as simple as performance metrics per se as it relates to people. Decisions are made in an ad hoc, tribal fashion, without much consideration for people or even the bottom line. Those who work hardest and care most tend to be let go, which is probably the most confounding issue with the whole place. All of this makes for quite a confusing experience - which until you experience the deception and lack of transparency can lead you to believe in the kool-aid. Buyer beware. 5) Paralysis to bet on innovation beyond “all lab testing for all people BUT really expensive food sensitivity testing!!!” which I’m afraid will lead to continued lack of success.

Hello, thank you for your feedback about your time at Everlywell. We’re glad to hear the mission and the people were an outstanding part of your experience. We feel the same way! If you have any specific concerns to share about our culture or management, we encourage you to reach out at people@everlywell.com. While complaints about management are quite uncommon (our last anonymous employee survey rated our management team at an 86/100 NPS with a 100% response rate) we take all feedback seriously as a valuable opportunity to improve. One question we can answer is that our leadership team is quite seasoned - collectively they have experience overseeing teams large and small at more than a dozen early stage companies and startups. Their collective expertise has been important in implementing a variety of feedback mechanisms at our company, including anonymous and non-anonymous ways of surfacing feedback individually, in small groups, in open forums, via 1:1 conversations with the CEO, and via anonymous surveys and anonymous reporting tools. Finally, we’re sorry to hear your feedback about almonds - food sensitivities drive us nuts too, which is why we offer cashews, peanuts, and lots of non-nutty snacks for employees to enjoy.
