Pros

-work life balance -interesting industry and work -intelligent co-workers

Cons

-failure to promote within despite having open positions and employees within the company that are qualified for them -promotions are often not based on contributions -extremely political culture -high performing young and / or entry-ish level employees are highly undervalued and underpaid relative to peers at other companies

Pros

Developers are the best in the world. On the business side of the house people are brilliant. The Technology organization is wasting the shareholders money with inflated titling, poor management, inappropriate promotions and lack of clear vision. A classic example is taking a truly technical resource and making them a manage.r now you have a technical gap and a junior leader which really means that there is a need for two jobs to be filled (tech and manager) which will not happen because those heads are filled with the wrong people in the wrong place.

Cons

The bottom line is that Expedia has an under qualified CTO wasting cycles and abusing capital. People spend more time trying to stay employed than producing. the entire platform is built on the MS stack and the CTO is wasting time with aesthetics vs. bring the business into the 2010 world of web technology.

Pros

Good location, diverse environment with a variety of different technologies and back bone systems, and if you get in the right group a good manager you will look out for you. There's still a flicker of the spirit that really attracted me to the company there and some folks who see you as more then an output machine.

Cons

There's way too much work and no long term strategy other then to react to what ever is the hot button issue of the day. No time is taken to go back and learn from mistakes, there's a lot of incompetent folks in leadership who all are pushing to advance and pull their friends along. Some of the recent history doesn't make me trust the leadership. A lot of antiquated technologies that are hanging by a thread. Too many things are done/bought because one person wants it, and then they move on and leave the bag that is on fire for someone else to deal with.
