Pros

Unique exposure to NYC Real Estate without living (and commuting) in NYC: Extell Financial Services is the support system and backbone to their Manhattan office that houses the Property Managers, Construction, and Development teams. Accountants work very closely with NY counterparts to complete daily accounting transactions and monthly reporting. A great team of people in both Louisville and NYC: Extell’s high standards are not only for their development projects in NYC. Extell hires and employs high performers who take pride in their work. I thoroughly enjoyed working with all of the highly motivated, talented people at Extell. Extell appreciates and rewards employees for positive attitudes, loyalty, and commitment to teamwork. In response to the previous review about favoritism, I did not find Extell to engage in favoritism. Extell appreciates their positive minded, hardworking employees that are willing to go the extra mile. Yes, there was occasional, minimal overtime needed during the close process which is reasonable given the line of work (and explained up front with all potential new hires). The people that excel at Extell (like most places) are those that are team players, committed to doing the best they can. Job responsibilities/advancement opportunities: Accountants are expected to take full responsibility of their assigned projects – to know the monthly deadlines, recurring costs, and work closely with their NYC project team. This responsibility is something that some people find demanding or struggle with while others excel at and find great satisfaction in. There always seems to be opportunity for advancement for those employees that seek it; those that try to go the extra mile and are proud of their work. The company is continuing to grow at a rapid pace. There are always plenty of new projects and opportunities for anyone looking for the challenge.

Cons

NYC Pace of Business: The excitement of working with NYC Real Estate is a unique experience for someone living and working in Louisville, KY. The NYC experience also tends to come with a NYC pace of business, something that is inevitably unavoidable. Occasional overtime and sometimes urgent requests can be considered a downside. However, some people thrive on the challenge and pace of the work. The work is important and employee’s efforts often have a direct impact on the company’s daily business transactions – both large and small. Management’s style is continuing to evolve as the company expands: Management has made big efforts to encourage staff to voice concerns, promote positivity and teamwork, and create a friendly work environment. It is clear that Extell is extending efforts to foster a positive work environment and they are striving to show their appreciation to their employees. Fluidity of Real Estate: The Real Estate business is constantly changing. Given the environment of change, business structures, investments, and processes are always changing at Extell. Employees have to adapt to the evolving market based on their project’s needs. This may mean changing banking procedures, monthly reporting practices, or various other tasks to adapt to the needs of the project. While a lot of projects are structured in a similar way, this is not a job that is static and exactly the same month to month. In my perspective it keeps the work interesting and always challenged me to stay current and learn new things.

Pros

It's exciting and the work is really fun. It's exciting to know that you are part of changing the Manhattan skyline

Cons

It doesn't feel like the management really cares about their employees. We have to clock in and out, even as a salaried employee, and they care if you are more than 5 minutes late. There is zero trust that we can get our work done without constant supervision. It is a really negative environment that I would avoid. Don't expect much positive feedback
