Pros

The company provides a generous benefits package, including a pension. FM Global is stable, so you will enjoy job security.

Cons

I didn’t realize that FM Global is extremely behind modern trends until I began interviewing with other companies. Employees are discouraged from contacting staff that are higher than their manager. In fact, several colleagues were chastised for answering benign e-mails from a senior manager. The culture is an interesting duality; employees are simultaneously micromanaged while being underutilized. If you join the company as anything other than an engineer, you will never progress past administrative work. Most of the administrative staff watches Netflix on their phones during the day. I am unsure if management is clueless or too busy to care. If you value ideas, innovation, and collaboration FM Global is not the place for you. The company has developed a business model that works, and as long as you are okay with being a cog on their wheel – you will do just fine. If your dream is financial security and a pension, FM Global can absolutely deliver. Conversely, if you want to feel valued, challenged, or if you question the status-quo, you will be miserable.

Pros

Best-in-class training for field engineers that puts you at the top of every competitor’s recruiting list.

Cons

Read the reviews going back to November 2021 to get a full picture of this company. People don’t stay here because they love it. People stay because they are comfortable with what’s familiar and are hoping things will improve (like an abusive relationship). The company is the textbook definition of a toxic work environment. Nepotism and cronyism are rampant. Many new employees and interns are the children, spouses, brothers, and sisters of current employees. Couples seem to get preferential treatment. Those individuals who are pre-selected for advancement can relocate around the country and climb the corporate ladder in tandem with their partner, even if only one of them has talent. Often the non-gifted one in the relationship will unfairly get promoted or magically have a new job created for them in the new location.

Pros

Free gas and tolls, company car ($120 personal use fee per month), paid phone bill (up to $100?), robust training program, paid lunch when doing client visit ( up to $10-$20) . Nice office. Some good people

Cons

Low Pay. Incompetent management in engineering department that feels the need to micromanage engineers but never makes themself available for questions and never advocates for team. Management is very rude and down-putting to engineers they do not like or engineers who are not agreeable. Workload is unrealistic. Hard deadlines. You’re training manager will tell you your doing great and once you’re transitioned over to the group manager, they will have issues with the way you conduct your visits and write your reports. The mistakes of non-white, non-senior engineers are amplified while senior and non-senior white males make the same mistakes and have their reports automatically approved.
