Pros

Amazing company back in its prime 2012-2015

Cons

Fullbeauty was a wonderful company to work for during its prime years, especially from 2012–2015. I spent nine years there, and in the beginning, I truly loved it. There was growth, bonuses, beautiful off-site holiday parties at amazing restaurants, and corporate luncheons. The company was expanding so quickly that we even moved from a Midtown office to a larger, more beautiful space downtown. As time went on, though, things began to change. Departments were restructured, and many long-tenured employees — some who had been there 25+ years — were let go as positions were eliminated. Entire leadership teams, including VPs, were cut in a single sweep. I watched friends, coworkers, and even families lose their jobs during that time. I remained safe because I managed vendor relationships, but it was still difficult to witness. I started in an entry-level role in 2012 and had to advocate for every raise I received. I worked incredibly hard and challenged the increases when they didn’t reflect the work I was doing. It took five years before I finally received a meaningful raise, and I thought I was on the right path. But as more people were let go, more responsibilities fell onto my plate. I had job security, but over time I essentially became a one-person team. Eventually, I told my boss I felt like I was drowning. I asked for support, an assistant, and a promotion — I felt I had earned it. I didn’t receive the promotion, and I waited another three years. In my ninth year, I was offered another job. That was when Fullbeauty finally gave me a raise — not the full amount I had requested, but about half. I was happy at first, but it still wasn’t enough. What I really needed was support and recognition for the work I had been doing. They did give me a title change, but still no help. When I received a second offer that same year, I accepted it. As I was walking out the door, they finally offered me an assistant — but by then, it was too late. The lesson I took from it all: listen to your employees, let them be heard, and show appreciation for their hard work before you lose them.

Pros

Hybrid schedule in retail is rare these days. This is a major pro.

Cons

Major leadership problems, starts with CEO and puts pressure on VPs to act the same as him. Lack of communication from them, expectations to be on meetings until 10pm, confusing business updates. Benefits are a problem. For a company that is majority women, the maternity leave is terrible. It is clear the company chose the cheapest possible insurance provider as so many things are not covered. PTO policy is old school.
