      Good Experience Overall - Not Overly Exciting, But Solid Honest Work

      Pros

      To most employees the Company will appear organized as many somewhat autonomous manufacturing sites in distant orbits around the world headquarters in Southfield, Michigan. In the communities where these sites are based, F-M still provides relatively well-paying manufacturing jobs. That's a good thing. Nice that they haven't solely concentrated all their operations in the traditional rust-belt states of Ohio and Michigan. Enjoyed my time there. Room for professional advancement - but you had to seek it out.

      Cons

      No cons. In the end I just didn't find auto-parts interesting anymore so I left the industry.

      Solving the same problems, over and over

      Pros

      This job had good benefits, on the job training, and great people to work with. Anyone working on the shop floor was always helpful. The products are interesting, varied and high-quality. Management is OK with mid-level managers working the shop floor equipment to learn the ropes of the company.

      Cons

      Management culture is stuck. The high-margin products hide many sins, and the rotating younger employees mean that there is no consistency on the shop floor. The main strength is the experience of the seasoned operators, but this experience is not easily transferred to new employees. When someone leaves, their knowledge goes with them, much moreso than at other companies, and problems are "solved" repeatedly by each new employee.

      Union shop - was told not to upset the stewards... what kind of place is this? It is a company that makes a product regardless of 'feelings'
