Growing too fast for their own good

Pros

Most of the people here are very modest, smart, and ready to help you when you have a problem. There is room for career growth.... if you know the right people and push hard enough.

Cons

Shawn is very smart and also transparent, but his overall demeanor has changed a lot over the last year. Maybe it’s due to the stress of trying to manage a fast growing company. People are overworked. Instead of hiring more people, they pile on more and more work on the existing employees until they are spread extremely thin. What used to be a more laid-back and genuine work culture, has now turned into a typical client/agency environment. The client now comes first, no matter what the cost might be. Revenue and client happiness now surpasses employee happiness/satisfaction. Things could go downhill very quickly at this rate. Employee retention used to be quite high, but now it’s began to decline.

We appreciate your input. You are right, we are growing at a very fast rate - an exciting problem to have! This also happens to be the busiest time of the year for us. Regardless, our focus as a company, and the directive of the People Empowerment department, is to maintain a human-first approach to everything we do. Our only goal for this year was to weather the challenges of COVID, while keeping all of our team members. To focus on people at the same time, Shawn has met one on one with every single team member in the Company. Not an easy task when we have close to 250 people - but we’re doing our best! We were glad to see that the Annual Pulse Survey reflected a high satisfaction rate among our Feedos. We do agree with you that our obsessive focus on “client happiness” is paramount and the reason why we are growing and being able to provide better compensation and benefits. Without our clients and the phenomenal reputation we work for every day, we would not be here. Hiring will also continue to be a part of our strategy - we have hired over 45 team members since June. That will persist as long as our client base continues, with each new hire coming in with the understanding that while we are here to support our clients, we also need to look out for each other and Keep a Blue Head. As we increase our family even more, we will look to improve upon the package of benefits we have already implemented. We actually did implement a 401k match for 2020, and we hope to be able improve on it every year. However, we will never lose sight of a human-first mentality, which is at the heart of our Legacy Principles. That is our commitment.

Great Culture

Pros

The culture of the company is truly excellent, uplifting, professional and forward thinking.

Cons

My immediate supervisor was the quintessential micro manager. There was not much in the way of respect for anyone else's opinions so team meetings largely consisted of one-way communication. While the culture of the company as a whole was positive, the culture of our team was intense, uncomfortable and not conducive to collaboration.

We are happy that you enjoyed your time with Feedonomics and agree that we strive every day to make our culture great and look for improvement. It is great to see your comments about our culture being “excellent, uplifting, professional and forward thinking.” One of the ways we have adhered to “when you are on top of your game, change your game” mantra is by implementing a Leadership Development program which includes people manager training. So while we are surprised by your feedback - we are happy to say that this initiative was already underway. We continually let all of our people know that we have an open door to speak to our dedicated People Empowerment Team, including an open door to our CEO, to discuss any concerns, including some of the issues you highlighted. We are surprised that you did not escalate these concerns to any of us, as we can assure you we would have been able to help facilitate a better environment for you, or provide clear feedback to you as to the need for the over involvement of your manager. One of the key tenets of our engineering team ethos is self empowerment, and our software engineers are given the freedom to make the best decisions for their projects based on a very clear understanding of our prioritization roadmap. The only time there may be instances of “micromanagement” will be with newer team members who are still learning, or engineers who are not coding to our standard or within the scope of the engagement. As we continue on our journey as a company, we will continue to evaluate the effectiveness and environment of each and every team. We are truly committed to every Feedo’s growth both personally and professionally and we hope that you are finding that in your new endeavors.

Pros

Great culture Amazing team & managers In-depth training Monthly 1/2 day Fridays Room for growth Good health insurance

Cons

Overall, Feedonomics is a great place to work. However, there are a few things that didn't work well for me: Upper management actively discourages discussing compensation with your coworkers. This is a federally protected right, and a manager should never tell you not to talk about pay with your coworkers. Pay disparity among employees doing the same role. New employees making 5k+ more than current employees doing the same role for longer. You will be expected to track every single minute of your day. This is somewhat normal in a client-facing role, but it affected my working style and made me feel like I was being micromanaged. Pressure from upper management - if you are in a client-facing role, there is constant pressure to make & keep your clients happy. If a client is unhappy, they will want to know what you did or didn't do to cause that (even if it wasn't your fault). Upper management is becoming increasingly more micromanaging, with new processes and requiring managers to be copied on client communications when they have little interaction with clients. No bonuses No 401k match Compensation increase only once a year

Recognizing we have a great culture because of our amazing team members and managers is huge - we are in agreement and we appreciate the call out! Feedonomics offers a ton of incredible training and development opportunities and benefits for team members to advance themselves personally and professionally. Your comment about our obsessive attention to client communications is 100% correct. We pride ourselves on being the best full service solution in the industry and we do expect every Feedo to be overly attentive to client needs, regardless of whether they are officially client facing or not. We are all responsible for ensuring the success of our clients. We absolutely do not have an issue with employees sharing their compensation information with each other, but we do discourage detractor behavior. If an employee is actively soliciting other employees and making them feel uncomfortable, we request that they address their compensation concerns with their manager or our People Empowerment team.
