We appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective and for the positive remarks on our Mission and culture. You raise an interesting point about our advisor non-compete agreements; we understand how that might initially feel like a limitation. Here is a bit more context on why we include it and how it’s designed to benefit not just the company but an independent advisor—and, most importantly, the clients we serve: At First Command, we strive to build long-term, trust-based relationships with military families. To do that well, we invest heavily in our advisors from day one, with specialized training, planning tools, and a proven system we've built over decades around the unique needs of the military community. The non-compete agreement helps protect that investment and ensures that the work our Advisors put into building those relationships remains part of a consistent, mission-driven approach. From the Advisor’s perspective, it also supports a healthier, more stable environment where you’re not constantly looking over your shoulder or worried about competitive overlap from peers. It creates clarity, boundaries, and mutual commitment. This helps ensure continuity and consistency in the coaching we provide our clients, even if an advisor transitions out of the business. That kind of reliability and trust is why our clients stay with First Command for generations. We wish you the best in your future endeavors.

Pros

Great company. They do a lot for employees. The people are top tier and everyone gets along great. The company really cares and treats you well.

Cons

The only con I'd say is that they should treat contractors better. They'll come and ask about events happening only for a full-time person to have to tell them contractors aren't allowed to participate. It's awkward to not have some team members a part of the fun at times. The least they could do is stop sending them emails inviting them to things they can't attend. For example, the employee luncheon or when we all got gifts for employee appreciation. It's pretty crappy of FC.

Thank you for sharing your review of First Command. Our Fort Worth, TX location is the home office to many talented individuals dedicated to our mission of coaching military veterans and their families in their pursuit of financial security. We are committed to creating engaging experiences for them; to your point, participation in those experiences is key. We will share your comments on contractor participation with the leadership team. In the meantime, we recommend that you voice any interest in upcoming events directly to your leader for guidance on attendance.

Pros

Day to Day is different every day, getting to know people and the work culture in every department. Never boring, always learning and room to take initiative times.

Cons

Poor leadership in this department. Unorganized and poor communication left staff to "make it up as we go".

Thank you for sharing a review of First Command. Your comments regarding our need to be agile resonate with many of our Home Office staff as we constantly find ways to serve our clients better. To your point, people committed to our mission of coaching military families in their pursuit of financial security, who take the initiative, and who are continuous learners tend to succeed here regardless of the stage they are at in their careers. A good approach for new hires coming into our office would be to learn as much as you can during New Employee Immersion, where you are introduced to the departments and functions within our team and collaborate with your colleagues. Many of them have been with First Command for an impressive tenure and it is critical to tap into the depth and breadth of experience within the team while modernizing our processes and procedures to deliver on the customer needs of today. Your management advice will be shared with our executive leadership team. We wish you well in your future career endeavors.
