Pros

About the only "pro" to working here, is the young and talented work staff who are, for the most part, a pleasure to work with. The company used to do progressive-type things, like outings and extracurricular activities but has now resorted to lame, "Office Olympics" activities which consist of embarrassing games of paperclips and various office supplies. These were fun for some, but I'm inclined to think that they were humiliating for most. There was a long stretch where daily showings of "The Office" were somehow thought to be constructive diversions from the daily routine. Attendance to these showings proved otherwise.

Cons

Too many to list. Nothing I say here hasn't already been said elsewhere in the reviews. My main purpose of writing this review is to bring the star-rating back down to where it belongs, after having been artificially boosted by the CEO, who's advice to management was to be "nimble" and who marginalized the "cons" as being a simple result of growing pains. Note that not a single complaint was addressed or an explanation offered for the dismal ratings on Glassdoor. Accept work here only if it is your only option. Save your money, give 'em your two weeks, and then move on to greener pastures.

Thank you for your feedback. As a company, we welcome both positive and negative feedback as it helps us to improve. We fully agree with your assessment that we have very a talented team at Flatirons Solutions. We are continuing to evolve our organization and have sought a lot of input from employees in your office and others, and have worked hard to be responsive to the needs of our teammates. If you have any suggestions to improve your working environment, or the organization as a whole, don’t hesitate to reach out to any of the leadership team: we all have an open door policy, including the CEO. If something needs to be addressed, it’s often constructive to talk about it and engage others to help. With regard to the 5-star review you referenced, please note that the review is still available on Glassdoor and that it is from our VP of Solution Management (not the CEO). I’m sure you’ll agree that he has as much right to express his viewpoints here as you do. Finally, with regard to the office events, attendance is never required. They are an attempt to show appreciation to our team, and have fun. They are not for everyone, though the “Beer 30” events have proven popular recently…so we may be on to a winning formula there!

Pros

As a software engineer, you are pretty much independent. There is no micro-management going so that's a plus. There's plenty of time-off available. High opportunities for traveling to customer sites nationally and internationally.

Cons

The company has historically been reorganizing several times each year. There is an incorrect balance of engineers versus business people causing a ton of overhead on business positions (project managers) and an overload of work on the engineers. The pay is significantly below the average based on companies near by (bottom 10%).

Pros

Flex schedule, benefits are OK.

Cons

Bad management who puts way too much business in one customer and doesn't look actively for new opportunities before major customer issues occur. Direct management doesn't know jobs. Training is poor, you learn by osmosis. Some clickish employees where gossip is prevalent.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on how we can improve. We have learned some of the lessons you cite about relying on a small number of large accounts, and are actively diversifying our portfolio, both in terms of customer partnerships and solution breadth. We also strive to hire experienced and knowledgeable staff, but in some cases, that reliance on team member expertise may have led to complacency with regard to the supplemental training needed to make them successful. We’ve learned lessons there, too, and are working hard to make sure other members of our team don’t have an experience like the one you’ve had. We wish you the best in your professional endeavors.
