Pros

I love my coworkers. Everyone has the best attitude and is always so willing to fill the gaps. There is always a dog in the office to brighten my day. We get catered lunch and have great benefits and each office is beautiful.

Cons

Leadership and management are a wreck. The company is growing too fast and no one knows how to keep up. They are supposed to LEAD by example but when it counts the most, they don’t do anything. There are no defined roles, there is constant movement and zero consistency. People who started in the first stages of the company have automatically been promoted into management and leadership positions because of seniority but many are I’ll equip. They are unsure how to properly manage those beneath them so they end up neglecting them and the executive team neglects anything that isn’t sales and engineering. Too many people left hanging in the balance.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback -- we’re glad to hear that you love your coworkers, both human and canine (we do too!). We have definitely been growing quickly, and we’re not shy about owning up to our growing pains. Since last year, we have established a twice-yearly performance review process to benchmark the growth and fulfillment of every employee, a process that gets stronger with every cycle. This has put a lot more structure in place around promotions and management. Part of our review process includes every manager creating a growth plan for every one of their team members. If you feel like this isn’t in place for you, please talk to your manager or your people business partner. We are always open to suggestions on how to make the process better and clearer, and we hope you will consider bringing your ideas to your dedicated People Business Partner.

Pros

Flexport is first and foremost a tech company, working on modernizing the freight forwarding industry. I was shocked when I joined by how genuinely open the culture was and still is. Every employee is sent to "Flexport Academy", a two-week program in which you travel to San Francisco and learn about the industry, company, values, and mission. I joined the Chicago office when it was small, and we've grown to a size of 60-70 people in less than a year. It's genuine growth based off need and portfolio expansion. The culture has inevitably changed a bit due to the large size and different teams, but the underlying community and radical transparency is still there. This role is incredibly fulfilling It's basically half operations (moving shipments around the world using our software) and half account management (working with clients to improve transparency and performance in their supply chain). The Operations function is, in many ways, the core component of the company and you get to be a voice and tester in many new features. There is constant improvement and feedback and positivity in this culture - I love it after a year and I highlight recommend getting in to Flexport now however you can!

Cons

This role is challenging and sometimes you need to be available in the evening or early morning. Generally, freight is a morning industry. There are growing pains in which sometimes new processes, teams, or other information is not properly "rolled out". Things just happen without warning. Teams are actively working on this and you should feel free to raise concerns without any fear of retribution.
