Pros

They provide lunch if you’re in the office

Cons

Toxic culture, low pay, consistently changing managers, team members constantly leaving with no support for existing team members, no opportunities for any significant pay raises or promotions they will only give you more responsibility, company changes their goals constantly so it’s impossible to keep up, management is more focused on control than making sure their employees are happy, they perform engagement surveys but never respond to the feedback, gaslighting is happening constantly at all levels, dominant voices are listened to, people take credit for your work and your ideas, your opinions are not respected

Thank you for this feedback. We are constantly identifying ways we can improve and create a good work environment for everyone. I regret that you have had such negative experiences here. Certainly it’s not our goal for someone who works here to feel this way – and what you describe is not the kind of culture we pride ourselves on. One piece we have been very focused on in the past few years is more manager enablement. We recognize how important our front-line (and senior) managers are in helping employees navigate change, clarify expectations, and coach and advocate for high performance and productivity. We have a range of management experiences – and provide both internal opportunity and mobility for growth as well as experienced external leaders that can bring more perspectives. We have annual Manager Training programs, Manager Onboarding and Orientation, as well as robust toolkits. But more valuable than that, is the weekly enablement, coaching, and development (through senior leaders, mentors, or business partners). While all managers are different, it is a priority for us to ensure managers are equipped to support employees at all levels. We consistently see very high satisfaction levels in our engagement surveys on upwards feedback about managers. Of course, there is always more to do. Beyond focusing on managers, we also offer many training and development opportunities for employees. In performance reviews, upwards feedback, engagement surveys, focus groups, development chats, and more. We aim to strike a balance between “drive your career” and “support employees in development.” That said, it sounds like you are having a range of negative experiences, but also that you’re still here. I encourage you to reach out directly to your People Business Partner, your Manager, or Senior Leader – so we can better close the gap for you. We recognize that Formlabs is not an environment for everybody, but certainly don’t want employees actively working here to feel so disengaged or unsupported. Please reach out live, so we can help.

Pros

You will feel like the most competent person at the company

Cons

You will be the most competent person at the company. It’s run like a group of middle schoolers who only allow you to advance if you subscribe to their work ideologies. Low pay, zero room for career growth, products that are quickly being surpassed by competition, and not a single person at the company or management that you can look to for advice or any sound thinking at all. It’s a house of cards that WILL eventually collapse. Time shows everything

Worst job I've ever had

Pros

- Very intelligent and interesting people work here. - Culturally very young and lively. The people around you will make it feel worthwhile for a long time. - Interesting-ish problems to solve - Some managers are really good, but others are very aligned with senior leadership in EQ.

Cons

- No work life balance possible at this job. Expect to regularly hear about other engineers getting "project codenamed"d as a verb for staying past 7pm. - Regular reorganization and layoffs. A 9% r&d layoff happened after the first ever profitable quarter. Great reward. Many had no warning in previous performance reviews. - Callous senior leadership has the EQ of three year olds learning the word "mine" for the first time. - Hemorrhaging real talent as engineers realize they're being overworked and underpaid. Expect to have interns propping up critical parts of the company and important information to disappear every 3 months. - No concept of timeline and what can actually be done. Totally unrealistic expectations given limited staffing to layoffs and quiting. Running 4 simultaneous major R&D programs with a fraction of historical engineers on those programs. - Pay is abysmal for silicon valley level work expectations. I'm paid more at a 4 person small business firm than here. - Unlimited time off is very pressure and manager based. I know many people who did not use it out of fear. - No 401k matching - A new work culture of fear, competition, and intense pressure to perform. It does not work and it will continue to push away anyone who has any life outside of work. - I cannot more strongly recommend not working at a place. This job permanently damaged my mental and physical health and the mental health of those around me. It has taken me months to recover from the pressure and stress I was under here. Before working here STRONGLY consider why they are riding a 3.0 on glassdoor right now.
