Pros

I worked at Foss during college and briefly after college. It was a fun experience (for the most part) with fairly good families and (for the most part) good management. Great co-workers.

Cons

-- I left as a result of being very overworked and management did nothing to accommodate when I requested help. I requested a certain amount of hours since I was working another full-time job at the time. I got scheduled significantly more than what I had requested, but because of the way their scheduling works, I was "locked into the schedule" for the semester. -- I also had a major skin reaction to the chlorine (I found out I was allergic to chlorine), but management basically said suck it up and deal with it. -- The staff can be very cliquey... which can be a huge negative if you aren't part of the "in-crowd." -- The whole structure of parent-evaluations is awful. Your whole bonus is based on whether the parents liked you or not. If you didn't suck up to parents or didn't do exactly what they thought you should do, there was definitely no bonus, even if you were following what the "curriculum" says to do.

Pros

-good pay - easy to move up in the company - some managers were fun to work with - the kids you teach/ the difference you make in their lives

Cons

-there is a different rate when you clean (minimum wage). You are not allowed to leave your until the entire building is clean or you will be written up, they will not hire a janitor. i often found myself staying an hour to an hour and a half after my shift to clean with other co-workers, it wasn't light cleaning either, it was get on your hands and knees and scrub the floor. this is a deal breaker for me, i need to be compensated fairly, I'm a swimming teacher, NOT a janitor.

Pros

Excellent coworkers Fun job Great curriculum Fantastic (and clean!!) facility Good pay for a part-time position with incentives to sub and work weekends Overall, I would recommend this job to a young, physically fit person looking for a part-time gig to supplement their income.

Cons

The head manager I had would brag about how he was "not a manager/not a good manager," and rather than learn how to do better, he took pride in his shortcomings. He has since been replaced since I left, so many of my issues may be resolved. The current head of the school was in training when I was still there, and she seemed much more competent. This job is tough on the body. Expect to lose some muscle from floating in the pool for hours. Bathroom breaks were hard to come by, but I know the new manager was working on that when I left, so it may not be an issue now. Finally, there isn't much chance of a swim instructor making a career out of this job. Once you get to shift coordinator, that's essentially the limit of upward mobility at the Fargo location. However, this is more neutral than a con since if a person is only looking for a part-time gig, this is not a big deal.
