Pros

Decent benefits. Some teams have good management. There is an active social life in the NY office.

Cons

Incompetent management. Fragomen has an attorneys vs paralegals mentality. Bad attorneys will be favored over good attorneys or paralegals. Paralegals are viewed as stupid and lowly workers although many paralegals have more immigration experience than the attorneys they work for. Teams are poorly managed by partners who, at times, barely know the names of the paralegals that work for them. Senior attorneys often shift their work to junior associates so they can leave at 5:30 PM. Attorneys will often shift blame to paralegals to cover their own backs. Both junior attorneys and paralegals are overworked without any recognition of the work they do. This is a churn and burn company. This is not a company where you can have a good work life balance.

Pros

Team spirit and general camaraderie between attorneys, paralegals, and support staff. Training was good and there was a general, collegial work atmosphere.

Cons

Terrible management clique and not a little bit of bitterness between sr. Attorneys who seemed to transfer their misplaced resentments upon jr. staff. The layoffs were terrible and while supervisors set expectations, they also willfully undermined those who weren't deemed a good fit - usually for maintaining some degree of individuality and self-dignity.

Pros

If you're lucky enough to get on a good team, your job can be somewhat interesting and your co-workers can be awesome. Otherwise, some teams seem to randomly fire people every month or so, and it seems like the attorneys are scapegoating their underlings. They put out free fruit from Whole Foods on Mondays, and free bagels on Fridays. Every 3rd Thursday they have a party with snacks and beer/wine. Their insurance benefits are good.

Cons

You're overworked and overwhelmed with minutia that has to be done impeccably the first time, or else you get yelled at or fired for not noticing a tiny detail on a case where you received virtually no training. It's easy to be scapegoated, as the attorneys are under a lot of pressure to produce, and if they didn't take the time to explain something to you, it's easy for them to push that under the rug and claim you're just incompetent. While I appreciate the free food every so often, I'd rather get paid more. The building isn't great after they moved back to FiDi. The midtown building was better, and more conveniently located for the vast majority of the employees.
