Pros

The only pro is the food and snacks provided by verily.

Cons

1. Rushed timelines. Upper management is always pushing unattainable timelines which stresses teams out. Projects often need to be re-performed due to rushed planning. 2. Fake people. People will talk about you behind your back, including managers and directors. They will act fake nice to you in person. The main selling point when going through the interview process is the culture, however, it is all a façade. The culture at freenome is very toxic. Nobody wants to work together. People will forget that we are more than just our department, we are 1 company. 3. Poor management. Managers are constantly fighting each other about making decisions. Even during meetings. This leads to poor decision making which in turn affects the quality of the test. 4. Lack of trust. Nobody trusts you to do your job. But you cannot trust other people either. 1:1s are not confidential. Management has terrible conflict resolution and will only make any issues that were brought up worse. 5. Severely disorganized/lack of transparency. Decisions are always made without communicating to others. This causes a lot of confusion. 6. Review cycles are meaningless. There are no merit based promotions. Mid year review cycles do not mean anything because of this. It makes it feel like there is no room for career development.

Pros

Great ambitions, wonderful project that could do a lot of good and save a lot of people. Company puts a lot of effort into morale, especially during the early phases of the pandemic. Top-notch project managers. Some top-notch employees, especially scientists, in certain positions. Nice people. Lots of funding.

Cons

Groups do not work with each other, non-cooperative culture that is more interested in people's feelings and pronouns than holding people accountable for getting things done. Constant turnover, including at the C-level and VP-level. HR sent out a survey asking about people's gender identity, sexual preference, and race, and then announced more than once in all hands meetings that this information would be used in computing raises and promotions. Apparently, this is required by the Biden administration for companies of 100 or more employees (in HR's defense). This is, however, why I left Freenome.

Pros

Pay and benefits are great. I like how the recruiters came to me first and saw potential in me.

Cons

Management is terrible. Our supervisor tends to micro-manage a lot. The recruiter promised me that there's growth but as soon as I started, I was at entry level which is discouraging. Another review mentioned about the blame game and that is true in my department. I'm not allowed to perform some functionalities in my job which doesn't makes sense at all.
