Pros

I enjoyed working with the children. It is wonderful when you are part of positive changes in their lives and you know that it was because you did the extra to make it happen. The children and young adults soak up, "I'm proud of you". I made a point to let them know. All the social workers are great to work with, it's a tight group.

Cons

It's sad but court reporting come first, children second. Soo much work not enough hours of the day. Time management is the key to balance all the workload. Many workers get the experience, get a higher education move on with their career elsewhere.

Pros

Stable employment for the most part, plus health benefits, annual leave, and retirement however just know that all is a Mandatory deduction from your check including union dues. These deductions result in a much smaller check then you would think. The public sector thinks government employees are fat cats with their great retirement believe me we pay the price with our bottom line checks. Also once you reach the top pay in your field of work that is it. No more raises. Unless you want to promote to supervisor which many good workers do not.

Cons

Pay is less then other smaller Ca counties and after enduring a 9% pay cut, which they took all at once, we are getting it back a little at a time after a long fight. Management is a major issue at the county. There are so many inappropriate managers who are on power trips there. Lots of bullying going on and managers with major issues. The county needs to do an over haul from the top down and stop picking on all the good employees who work so hard, just to not be harassed on a daily basis. Work is challenging enough along with balancing family life, but having to appease supervisors due to their inflated egos adds to the work load. Managers are constantly in "cover themselves mode" worrying about their own skin so they can promote and or look good to their superiors. Many of them hide behind email which is a form of communication being over used ineffectively.
