Pros

Profit sharing, free product (stales)

Cons

Unfair workloads amongst RSR; requires weekends with no pay (flat base salary) Must join union with monthly dues (union is a joke) Route truck has no heat, no a/c so frostbite and heatstroke are imminent Cardboard dust is extreme; breathing is unhealthy Hero one day, tomorrow's bum (management behavior) Push product without notice, but held responsible for stales (your problem if peeps don't by doritos this week) No support from managers who never work with you in-field at stores Managers push hard so they can earn their quarterly bonuses (priority above all else); RSRs treated like slaves; lots of physical labor and over handling same product over and over; always looking for 'young fresh legs' Worked route sales over 30 yrs and no acknowledgement from corp upon leaving EPA needs to visit workplace; violations abound Never any 'ups'; no descent coffee or beverages available

Pros

As an route sales rep you earn a decent annual salary. Most of the stores you service are good to work with. Fully employer funded pension (5 years min. service for any benefit, retirement after 30 years).

Cons

Long, long hours, 50-60 per week. Little flexibility in scheduling. Commission was very low in the slow seasons. When you divide hours worked by the weekly salary it often $15 per hour. Variable Rate Over Time (VROT) is a joke. Hours worked over 40 hours IS NOT paid at time and a half. Extra hours add very little to your paycheck. Say the job as running your own business, however, boss will micro-manage what you should do and make immature jokes about sleeping with your coworkers.
