Great remote startup full of passionate open source fans

Pros

Incredible coworkers, many of whom who have been involved in open sourced software for years and are really committed to solving problems in creative ways. Fun to get to know coworkers and users all across the globe. A strong, if still small, design organization and strong support for design from most key stakeholders. I have also seen everyone at the company make real efforts to be inclusive in hiring, management, and working practices.

Cons

Regular struggles of a startup like ambiguity about priorities and roles/responsibilities because of rapid growth and many of us are wearing several hats, though I think our challenges are milder than most startups from what I've heard. I've been able to keep a good work-life balance, take vacations.

Fantastic Company with Fantastic Culture

Pros

Being a fully distributed company means I get to work where I want. For me, that just means my house, but it frees up time to spend with family as I don't have to commute anymore. It's also nice that everyone is distributed, so communication works well as there's not a big office with most people and a few remote folks getting left out. The projects we're working on are fun and challenging and are helping shape the future of the web. I've only been here about 6 weeks, but it's been super welcoming, everyone is very supportive and helpful, but also willing to offer constructive criticism when necessary.

Cons

Being fully distributed has some challenges. If you're used to being in an office with people, the adjustment can take some time.

Smart co-workers, passionate community, great place to work

Pros

Gatsby has some of the smartest people I've worked with and that made it really enjoyable. I loved working with my coworkers and could see their passion about what they were doing. I learned a lot at the company and it positioned me well for my next role. Overall, I recommend Gatsby as a great place to work.

Cons

Gatsby had a bit of a rough start the first 2 years due to a lack of focus coming from the leadership. When you try to do too many things at the same time, chaos ensues. The company has worked to fix this (end of 2020, brought in a new CEO among other things) and that has made a drastically positive improvement. I'm very optimistic about the future of Gatsby and will look forward to seeing where it goes!
