Pros

Joining as SW engineer will put you almost immediately in charge of pretty important projects and allow for great system level experience, dealing with pressure and adversity with little repercussions if you fail or go over time. Looks great on a resume. Job security is extremely stable and despite what they try to say, unless you commit violations or crimes, you will have a job there. Work/Life balance. Leave at exactly 40.1 if you want and flex your time to get some easy Fridays

Cons

Everything else. Culture is atrocious and bent on "work more slow, make more dough". You can literally see people ageing and drying up in the sun doing menial tasks day to day. There are some seriously incompetent people in all levels of engineering experience and implementation wise. ATA Shop Order system is done extremely poorly at company especially for engineers. Promotes a culture of not doing anything unless a SO is provided and puts a barrier on having more engineers be cross disciplined, going to labs and learning. Lack of company paid for professional development even on pertinent topics. Your time, company won't pay for it. It has cut most of its programs to develop engineers (classes on Systems engineering, Masters degree programs, Tech X). Parking is hilarious here. Prepare to be dinged.

Pros

Very good entry level salary. Solid first job put of college. Immediate management cares for your well being and will work with you if you have personal matters to attend to.

Cons

Little room for advancement. People who do not deserve promotions receive them due to tenure over those who have earned it. Parking problem (upper management won't acknowledge it, though). Many people look for others to point fingers at.

a perfect job for the apathetic, the un-ambitious, and the lazy.

Pros

-job security. you NEVER get fired. occasional firing is due to either management making an example of you, or you do something to lose your security clearance. -low stress. -flexible hours. -i guess river view is nice.

Cons

-job security. no one cares since people NEVER get fired. half the people here dont do anything. im not exaggerating. -seniority based review. you worked hard and took up extra responsibilities? thats nice, take ur 2% raise, congrats. u didnt do anything? u also get 2%, good for you. -parking. if you dont show up by 530AM, no parking for you. -no graduate educational support. they changed policy circa 2014 to make it almost impossible to get further education with company support. young engineers, run. -Groton / New London. no one wants to be here. -niche skill. EVERYTHING is submarine-specific. 90% skills you learn here are either inapplicable elsewhere or cannot be disclosed. if you spend too long here, youre more or less stuck here because your skills are utterly useless elsewhere.
