      Pros

      My bosses, my mentors and my colleagues. Our company's product (submarines) and the amazing leadership team. The assignments and challenges I had at Electric Boat gave me some of the best professional intellectual assets in my possession. It wasn't "just a job" it was a learning experience. I left for personal reasons, but I would certainly go back.

      Cons

      Some bureaucracy, but nothing any other corporation wouldn't have. Need to be intelligent and ambitious enough to break barriers. Location. Its not New York, LA, Miami. Most appropriate for couples.

      Pros

      The company offers guidance through a mentor program to help you get started. They also offer a rotation program for those who want to expose themselves to different areas of the business. It's also a stable industry with good job security.

      Cons

      Most all raises and promotions are very time based rather than merit based. All time is charged to contracts, which results in "hourly" salary employees. This means that when time above 40 hours is worked, overtime is often unpaid, but anything under 40 hours and vacation time is taken. And employees are given only 2 weeks of vacation for the first 10 years of employment. The work is also very slow due to the nature of the business.

      Pros

      The best part is working directly on a really amazing product. Management is also very supportive of good ideas as long as you've done your homework.

      Cons

      Working with the Navy is annoying sometimes. They like to stifle innovation in the name of safety and cost reduction. Advancement is slow and sometimes not well communicated. The use of advanced technology is unheard of. Upper management doesn't want to spend money on anything to create a better, more efficient work environment for engineers if it doesn't save money on the final product directly.
