Pros

General Mills delivers an overall positive work experience. It strives to treat its employees well and be the "employer of choice." Employees at the corporate HQ enjoy a lot of on-sight amenities: company store, hair salon, concierge, coffee shop, medical facilities, etc. It is accepted to take time off for key personal needs. The company's results are exceptional during these tough economic times, so job security is definitely a bonus.

Cons

The diversity mantra has taken over hiring and promotions. Non-diverse candidates are often overlooked. This means that "diverse" individuals are placed in positions that they may not be ready to execute. Those who do not work at corporate HQ are treated like second-class citizens. They do not receive the same benefits and are encouraged to cut (for the sake of HMM) the few benefits they have remaining. The non-confrontational culture means that sub-par employees often remain in the company for a long time. Likewise, the overly structured pay system means that high performing employees cannot be compensated well. As a result, the best often leave and the mediocre reamin indefinitely.

Pros

- Pension plan - Nice people - Good amount of vacation days - Many onsite perks at headquarters - Encouragement to take vacation (although work gets in the way of many taking all of their days off)

Cons

- Slow career growth (my peers at other companies are further along the ladder than I am) - Because people are very passive-aggressive about accelerating the career ladder, your work may not get recognized and/or your recognition may be taken by others - You must fit a certain mold; if you do not "act" the culture of General Mills, you won't go far
