Pros

The best thing about Geographic Solutions is that there is no dress code. I wore shorts, t-shirts and flip-flops the whole time I worked there. Only when there are visitors do you have to dress up.

Cons

You don't get a chance to do a good job here. The emphasis is on quantity and speed: get as many things done as quickly as possible. There is tons of spaghetti code and the software is always breaking, so you are always fixing things. There were 5 development managers while I was employed there and none of them were able to change the way things are done because the owner just pushes for faster/more. QA can't test fast enough, so changes aren't fully tested and then development gets blamed. The best thing I ever did there was leave.

Pros

free sodas two monitors. that's about it. some other people will say that you get to wear shorts and flops but to me that just highlights that this environment is not very professional. they will take just about anybody because it's a revolving door.

Cons

you go to meetings where you are told that you have a great job. you are working on an assembly line. All creativity and thinking is not needed, just get back to your desk and keep fixing the same errors over and over again because your code will be overwritten by someone who fixed something else and didn't bother merging correctly. do you like a work-life balance? forget it. if you don't work 60 hours a week and then go home and work at night, you might as well have committed treason.

Pros

Free sodas if you can call that a pro. Some really great people working under a dysfunctional management staff. Plenty of chances to practice your skills.

Cons

Sweat shop is a great description. Forced to work a minimum of 45 hours per week as the regular schedule, but most technical staff members also have to work at least one day a week until who knows when. Sometimes after midnight and you still start at 8am that day AND the next day. No chance for real advancement. No support for new technologies. No focus making the product better; just band aid and deliver to the client!
