Stable but Dead End Career

Pros

Georgia Power is a stable company with lots of cash flowing into it, because it is basically a monopoly with guaranteed profit. The culture is very predictable. There are no surprises. This company is very slow to change, which can be very comforting to people that want to stay with a company for a long time, doing the same thing for years until they retire.

Cons

Fitting the mold (straight, evangelical, rural, conservative) or pretending to if you can stomach it, makes it much more likely that you will have a satisfying career. Cronyism and nepotism are rampant and counter-productive to the future of this company. Average performance is rewarded, especially if you don't threaten the status quo. Some executives are decent and hard-working, but this company generally doesn't promote employees that can kick butt, lest someone upsets the apple cart. Group think is out of control at this place.

Pros

Georgia Power is a great company to work for. The employees are friendly and it is a very corporate environment. There are many perks to working for a big corporation. Office supplies are always available and there are onsite benefits for employees, such as a cafeteria and credit union

Cons

Some of the positions are filled by contractors or internships. This isn't out of the ordinary for big companies. It does of course, depend on the position and the department. It's great to be a contractor, but those who prefer full-time work might think otherwise.
