Pros

The best part of working at Gilead Sciences are definitely the benefits. They have great, reasonably priced benefits for individuals and families. Another great part of working at Gilead is knowing that what you do every day is contributing to the patient directly. Nothing makes me feel better than to look at the eyes or hear some heart warming thank you for the person the medication Gilead developed helped. As this company grows fear of layoffs are very slim.

Cons

One of the most challenging things to handle at Gilead is the culture. It is not a very relaxed environment. Everyone seems to be working on the anxious level and always scared. Gilead is very proud of the fact that they work lean which means you do the job of 3 people and are always behind the 8 ball. If you are lucky to have a great manager they will do their best to help manage that but only to a certain extent because it is not up to them. It is driven by Senior Management and apparently they love overworked employees. People never feel a sense of accomplishment because they are always overwhelmed with work and depending on the department promotions are not given appropriately. Gilead demands a lot and not everyone can handle it.

Pros

I had to really really think of something to write here, but i dont think there is any thing to write......at this point even monetary benefits seem useless.

Cons

Heavy politics, favoritism, excessive work, and no work life balance. They make you work like a dog. if you question them, they will make every effort to make your life extremely uncomfortable. Human Resources is a puppet!

Cons

When I think of my time at Gilead I'm troubled by the fact that it has so many things going for it: great products, interesting and diverse pipeline, and they have amazing and talented staff and yet they cannot get out of their own way. The trouble is that they waste their talent. This is especially obvious in the Clinical Operations department. Due to numerous acquisitions this department grew exponentially without the support and ability to manage it - especially when it came to the managers. Many of the managers are incompetent when it comes to managing staff, and they should undeniably remain individual contributors. Trained, interested and trusting managers keep people. Micromanaging, lost and often-incorrect managers do not keep people. Unfortunately I found that there is no recourse to resolve issues with management as no measures were taken to improve the situation despite many, many, warning signs. As other reviewers have noted, it's your time at Gilead, not your talents. If you're of the old brass then whatever you do is acceptable, but if you are new to the company you pretty much have to grin and bear the "Gilead way". It is unlike any other environment I have worked in and I wish that I had listened to other colleagues prior to joining the company and gone somewhere else instead. Take heed, this is a company in massive flux and they do not know how to adapt at all, *especially* the top management in the Clinical Operations group.
