I never intended to write a Glassdoor review, but I was compelled to after reading an article where the CEO cites a thriving company culture, a supportive environment for mental health, and a workplace that supports “taking care of the whole you.” These claims are not at all in keeping with my experience.
While strides may have been taken to improve work-life balance during the pandemic out of necessity, GiveCampus is historically known as a culture that rewards over-working and lacks transparency and healthy boundaries. Many GiveCampus employees will tell you that they were drastically underpaid for their labor and felt manipulated. No amount of being "paid in experience" justifies the unrealistic and under-compensated expectations that GiveCampus places on many of its staff who are eager to buy into the mission.
As demonstrated in the article referenced, GiveCampus tries to project a very happy-go-lucky outward impression. However, GiveCampus struggles so heavily with retention for the very fact that employees do not feel valued.
With this in mind, if you are applying for a job at GiveCampus, I encourage you to be very intentional about asking junior and mid-level staff if and how they’ve seen the company culture evolve. I really do hope this evolution has occurred, but I would be cautious of accepting claims of a thriving culture at face-value.
