The list of cons is large but here are a few:
>no consistency in how employees are treated. These decisions are based entirely on the whim of the management in place. With a large corporate office to ensure consistency, one is fooled in to believing people are actually valued as employees.
>As a not for profit company, they hide behind numbers as quality indicators; regardless of the care the residents are receiving. We are constantly told to cut staffing hours yet we don't have enough people to provide bare minimum care.
>VERY LOW WAGES-again they hide behind the not for profit moniker to get by with paying far less than industry standards.
>Benefits are AWFUL-unless you are an administrator or director of nursing you pay for benefits that are worthless. Yes the higher paid employees receive FREE benefits while those that don't make enough to pay bills have to pay for benefits. (VERY GREEDY!!) Plus the benefits offered are so terrible they cover nothing--it is nothing more than a catastrophic plan.
>Be prepared to deal with some of the most pompous individuals on the planet. The company rewards folks for staying with them by moving them into jobs they are not qualified for (administrator, executive director, consultant) they have no idea how to do their job but they are getting FREE benefits and dictating how the residents' receive care but most have not actually done any actual work for a very long time if ever. (Example consultant for entire area that has never actually done the job she is consulting for)
>The very large corporate office mentioned above (National Campus) is virtually a phantom being that really does nothing for us. They are to be the experts to guide us but they don't return phone calls, emails etc. and they whip into a building they know nothing about make snap judgments and railroad valuable employees out of their jobs.
Best advice I can give anyone who wants to work for Good Sam is to re-evaluate what you are truly looking for; the company does a great job of spewing Christian values but falls extremely short of reaching those values. The company specializes in rural nursing home care; meaning it becomes one of very few employers in areas allowing them to treat both the resident and the employee terribly.
