Pros

Pros- Trauma bond with your coworkers that will become friends for life

Cons

If you were like me, fresh out of college, or a few months from graduation looking for direction in your next step and a career that has the capabilities to take you to the next level quickly, listen up. Goosehead will promise all of the above. Growth opportunities, competitive pay, amazing work environment. I wish i knew that they wouldnt even come close to scraping the surface in each of these three categories. Seeing all of my college friends move away for graduate school or start internships catered to their fufure career made me feel like I needed to succeed more than ever. I got a message from a Goosehead recruiter one day that piqued my interest. I had a call, learned about the 6 figure earning potential in my first year and the title of “account executive” and I was sold. I packed my things and moved to Dallas knowing nobody, ready to make this job my life. I wish I could go back to my naive, but eager 22 year old self and have her read this review. Firstly, the recruiters know NOTHING about the job itself. They couldnt tell you anything about the actual day to day of the job and all they do is juice you up to think you will make all this money. Secondly, the managers are all sales people that were promoted bc they wouldve left if they hadnt gotten paid more. This leads to unprofessionalism, lack of vision and overall mismanagement of a team full of 22-24 year old adults who need direction. Sales people are not managers. You will make 60k at the most. Even if you are working your butt off everyday, staying late, coming in early, making your cold calls. You can not beat a system designed for you to fail. GH is the epitome of corporate greed. They prey on young college grads that need a job, so that when they sell policies under the GH name, the company can take 80% of your commision whiile you get pennies. Thats why it is a revolving door of people, They dont care about you, they care about how much money you can make for them. The “Account Executive” role is a complete joke. You are an insurance agent/customer service rep. You are forced to sell policies with bad coverages to your own family bc strangers have enough sense to turn you down. OH and dont even think about trying to network with real estate professionals for leads, especially in DFW. They dont want to work with you. They are so tired of hearing the name Goosehead that as soon as you say it, they will write you off and never work with you bc they know that you will never stay long term. We are encouraged to call the same person dozens of times and sell them whatever horrible policy that they push on us that month. Insurance companies dont want to work with GH, bc they know that a majority of them are written incorrectly or falsified in order to make a sale. Management encourages this falsification and then when something goes wrong on the policy, youre on the line for it. All that matters to managers is selling. They dont care how you do it, if it could cost you your insurance license or to lose an appointment with a carrier. Make the sale or youre fired. Just to pass training, you have to sell at least 3 policies to your friends and family. If they sense you dont have the gusto to do this or the connections to make it work, they will never take a chance on you bc they wont be able to make money off of your hard earned sales. They emphasize renewals as your way to make money. Another joke. GH doesnt allow you to recieve your renewals unless you sell a certain percentage of “packaged” business. Meaning, you HAVE to sell a home AND auto to the same client. Even if the auto is hundreds of dollars more than what they are already paying with their current insurance. If you dont, you do not recieve the renewals for the Home or the auto policy, which is just the most absurd and outward scam i have ever encountered. HR is a joke. I was sexually assaulted by a coworker. Had a talk with HR in which they assured me it would be handled. The next week he was rewarded with a work trip and given absolutley no consequences. I was then bullied by others in the office to the point where I didnt even want to come in to work. There are mulitple occurences a day that could be reported to HR and everyone ignores it bc its part of the “culture” Towards the end of my almost year and a half at GH, I started switching over my clients to State Farm, simply because I knew if i left, nobody would ever pick up the phone and help them, they were getting horrible coverage from the start and i could not in good conscience, leave them at that awful company. In conclusion, whatever you do, DO NOT buy into the lies of corporate leadership and recruiters. This job is hell and you can ask any former employee and they will tell you the same thing. Anyone who succeeds at this job, could be making 10x more money somewhere else and they are just too brainwashed to see it. do yourself a favor and ghost the linkedin message.

Worst Insurance Agency Ever

Pros

They pay for your license.

Cons

This company is a real sweatshop - the hours are long and the pay is not commensurate of the time you put in. Also you don't get equity in building your own book of business, which is where the money actually is in insurance. This is an agency that acts like a direct channel carrier (Allstate, Statefarm, etc.) with none of the benefits of being at an insurance brokerage. STAY FAR AWAY.

We are sorry to hear your experience was out of the norm. Our corporate account executive team has 2 clear career paths to equity - through corporate leadership and our franchise launch program. For those who apply for the launch program, you create a path to equity through book ownership. We also have an option for those desiring a high income/truly autonomous role within our account executive team - without pursuing additional management responsibilities. We go over these options in depth during our recruiting process and are happy to share resources and real-life examples of successful team members in all paths! We are sincerely sorry that this was not your experience and are eager to provide clarity for all candidates moving forward.

Pros

It’s sales. I love sales. I love chasing the high of hitting my goals

Cons

Market is very difficult and over saturated. Managers will gaslight but that’s pretty much any sales role. Way too many guidelines which disempower the agent. Compensation is below the industry average (but it’s getting better this year). Bad work life balance but that’s also common in sales.
