Pros

PTO and essentially a free master’s degree.

Cons

Can’t really use your PTO without it negatively impacting your ability to hit numbers. On the surface, this company looks great. Once you have worked for them over a year, you will see how terrible this company treats employees. PTO usage is highly discouraged, performance standards are high without adequate help to achieve the standards, and managers will deliberately work against you if they don’t like you. If they like you, they will hand you easy enrollments. If your manager dislikes you, they will remove students or leads out of your name. This job will give you excessive stress.

Pros

Good pay / benefits for entry level position. Upward mobility (based on quota attainment).

Cons

Sad to realize that a private university operates under a business regime. First off, this department is true cold calling sales, not counseling prospective students. Rarely is there any form of inbound interest. Everything is self generated cold calling and pushing prospective students in the door. Management discourage transparency to prospective students. Your success is measured against a quota (aka # of students per month / quarter). There is a major lack of training and care for employees. Most (not all) managers are consumed in the status quo and uninterested in professional growth of their team members. No one is concerned with the "why" or "connecting the dots" on how their job / work impacts the company's success, just worried about making a paycheck. Furthermore, the qualifications of students is all legal based; nothing is educational prerequisite based. Management's only concern is if the prospective student has fulfilled required documents. There are no interest in GPA or other academic experiences, which puts this position on the front lines of diluting a degree from this university. I have had nothing but SUCCESS in this role, but felt it was time to share the reality versus mask my success with a paycheck. BEWARE: THIS IS A SALES DEVELOPMENT POSITION

GCE is glad to hear that you have enjoyed our pay and benefits package. GCE counselors are actively engaged with prospective students that have expressed interest in attending the university. Our counselors can help students achieve their desired academic goals and long-term career goals through their studies at GCU. If a prospective student no longer wishes to be contacted, we remove them immediately. As with many organizations, goal attainment is an important part of measuring job performance. We value your feedback, if you have specific details you would like to share please email feedback@gce.com.

Pros

None, this “school” should have a zero rating

Cons

Job is advertised as “Account Executive” when they fly you out for the monthly new hire trainings ( which was the first red flag ) you find your job is actually “ University Development Counselor” with a different job description than the one posted on Indeed. Brian will stand up there talk for a hour about all the hookers and drug addicts that got saved because the school was built. You have to do the job of event planner, recruiter, admissions counselor, enrollment services and advising. You are expected to get 28 enrollments the first year and once you’ve done that you can level up through 5 levels with increasing quotas and pay much like an MLM. Real Universities do not run an MLM to get enrollment, people apply because of the education they will receive not because someone convinced them to apply. GCU has lawsuits for not disclosing the cost of attendance, that should make you run immediately. You are expected to find or make up 10 events a month and call over 100 people a week which they track along with your location. Some managers actually had events lined up for their UDC, others did not and you’re left to build everything from the ground up because there’s no hand off from the last UDC in your region. The equal pay is another terrible concept, 75k in Indiana is not the same as 75k in New York. There is no upward movement available unless your regional leaves and if there is a regional open they give it to the person who had the most enrollments regardless of their ability to manage a team, my manager was 25, had 12 more years of work experience so I ended up receiving two other job offers within 4 months of starting that both offered a 10k salary increase as a manager, something I would have had to wait at least 2 years for in my role at GCU. If you are smart you will smell the BS immediately, do yourself a favor and work for a real university.
