Great Hearts Academies Response

We will take your feedback into consideration. We know there are areas of improvement including in retention and recruiting quality teachers/administrators. However, most of our administration staff have much more than 2 years of experience. We look for quality in experience and not just year of service when it comes to our employees. Some come from a variety of backgrounds and bring a lot of expertise to their academies. We know a few schools have had concerns that are being address. Thanks for your constructive feedback.

Red Flag for teachers

Pros

Good medical insurance, almost free and it is a super deal.

Cons

Administration: On the side of parents and students. No support for teachers. Discipline: Children rule the school. Work: overworked and no solidarity between teachers. You are on your own. Pay: Low. Dishonest company: will try not to pay you the months of June and July by asking you to resign in May. All confidential letters are sent to your mailing address without being sealed. As a consequence, my SS number had been compromised.

Pros

Having a full time TA is such a luxury, the parent community is mostly helpful albeit entitled, the kids are so sweet and generally highly performing so you can really push them, the facilities are beautiful and I never had to spend money on supplies for my classroom, the curriculum is awesome for math, social studies, science and literature.

Cons

The pay is shockingly low and wildly under-market for AZ charter schools, the upper administration at the corporate level would gaslight and shame us when we would voice concerns about safety, even publicly. Lots of nepotism and family members being given opportunity after opportunity. Our scheduled raises were frozen, we were lied to consistently about distance learning vs. hybrid learning, they recruit out of catholic colleges so the staff culture has religious undertones even though it’s a secular school. Teachers were blamed for the numerous covid outbreaks rather than accountability for their non existent mask policy. All policy decisions are at the whim of upper leaderships political ideology rather than fact. Site leadership is usually promoted too quickly because their staff retention is so bad. I believe my site leadership did their best despite being severely under-qualified. Upper leadership however is basically a cult
