Pros

The fee good students made every day great.

Cons

Extremely low pay with insane workload, toxic work environment where you're only valued if you're part of the "in" group, mandatory team building meetings with no results, constantly changing curriculum.

Thank you for your honest feedback. We believe the best for our students includes having the best faculty working with our students and parents. We believe our curriculum provides the best liberal arts classical education focused on character education and great books. Our compensation package has been an area that we have been working to improve. Great Hearts does provide excellent benefits (medical, dental, etc.), with employee premiums that are significantly below the national and regional averages. As of the 2024-2025 school year, we have increased the salaries of our current and new teachers. We will look at our benefits package to look for areas to continue to improve. We will continue to work to improve salaries again for the 2025-2026 school year. We know with the rising cost of living, it is important that we make sure our teachers get the very best. We have recently updated our salary schedules again for the incoming 2025-2026 school year to improve the compensation package for our teachers.

Pros

Amazing people to work with, much of the curriculum is very straightforward, less prep time than other schools, most student families are fantastic too!

Cons

Basically pay. We make 30%-50% less than the local school district. We regularly lose some of our best people because the pay is literally not liveable. COL has skyrocketed in Phoenix, and it doesn’t feel like Great Hearts has even attempted to keep pace. We’re just expected to be destitute for the cause.

We appreciate constructive feedback about the culture at your Great Hearts academy and we will share these concerns with our executive leadership. While we acknowledge that the culture of each academy may vary slightly, it is our goal to bring alignment and clarity to all academies around the mission to pursue truth, goodness, and beauty. Those pillars demand that our teachers and staff model virtuous excellence, but in any human endeavor, we fall short of those expectations and the work is hard at times. Still, we believe the mission is worthy of our continued commitment, and Great Hearts strives to support teachers and staff through effective leadership, professional growth, and fidelity to the mission.
