Thank you for your feedback. Several of our teachers have children who attend our schools which speaks to the value of a Great Hearts education. While we acknowledge that the culture of each academy may vary slightly, it is our goal to bring alignment and clarity to all academies around the mission to pursue truth, goodness, and beauty. At times, we fall short of those expectations and the work is hard at times. Still, we believe the mission is worthy of our continued commitment, and Great Hearts strives to support teachers and staff through effective leadership, professional growth, and fidelity to the mission. We will share your comments with our leadership. In the meantime, our benefits package is carefully checked each year to includes the very best offerings. In many cases, our benefits package is better than several district schools. Also, for the 2024-2025 school year, we have increased the starting salary and salary pay rates in efforts to be closer to district schools.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We strive to set a standard of excellence for our students with a focus on a rich liberal arts curriculum and emphasis on moral formation. We are pleased your experience has been a positive one. We believe the best learning environments for our students include a positive community of teachers, faculty, families and staff working together to give the students the very best. Working in the Education field does indeed require flexibility and teachers who can handle the multi-faceted / ever-changing needs of their students.

Pros

A liberal arts education is a most excellent format for having a lasting effect on the leaders of tomorrow. We are now on a par with the most prestigious prep schools nationwide. This past spring, Scottsdale Prep graduated 5 National Merit Finalists. At least two of our seniors earned scholarships to top military academies and another will be playing football via a scholarship to MIT. A varsity female swimmer is attending Harvard, but I am not sure if there was a scholarship earned. More important than all of these things, our students desire to excel both academically and otherwise. Even students who are not partaking in school-sponsored sports are often involved in worthwhile extracurriculars outside the walls of the classroom. My colleagues desire to give students the very best of themselves daily. This is the key to a thriving academy and something that cannot be taught in any teacher education course. Historically, we have always had 10-20 teachers (out of some 60) who could be considered worthy of earning the Teacher of the Year Award every year.

Cons

While the rewards of teaching with Great Hearts are the best of the best, the school year is a very busy time. Teachers have a lot of irons in the fire. In this regard, teaching with Great Hearts is not for the faint of heart! But if you love people, it is the greatest challenge you will ever love.

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate your comments as we strive to set a high standard of excellence for our students and faculty. We continue to work on ways to improve work life balance for teachers. We believe the classical liberal arts model at Great Hearts truly provides the best education for our students. Liberal education consists of cognitive, emotional, and moral education—thinking deeply, loving noble things, and living well together. That program of study cannot be accomplished haphazardly, and so a coherent, broad, and consistent sequence is implemented for all students to access. We truly see this model is liberating but at the same requires extra efforts on behalf of all involved – bringing scholars to the fullest version of themselves both intellectually and morally. For students who may yearn for more specialized or skills-based programs, those options are available to them via other educational institutions both public and private, but we humbly stand by the usefulness of a liberal arts program for all students K-12.
