Pros

Plenty of room for advancement and compensation is competitive. There is a fantastic sales training program that give you the tools you need to succeed. Culture has shifted but it still a very positive environment.

Cons

Lack of transparency into methodology of how targets are set. When large changes occur there is often a bottle neck in finance/commissions to finish career progression and compensation plans for reps, which causes a large amount of unrest.

We appreciate your feedback, so thanks for taking the time to write a review. Our Sales training program is something we’ve put a lot of work into, so it’s great to read that you find it helpful. We’re also glad that you find compensation to be competitive, especially when you take into account the full benefits package alongside it. We understand that it can take time to adjust to changes within the Sales department, but as long as employees such as yourself believe in our mission and focus on long-term success, we believe Groupon can achieve awesome things.

Pros

There is a young crowd which is great for recent graduates transitioning into the corporate world.

Cons

As of today June 2nd Groupon just split up the entire sales force into two divisions. The first division are sales reps who exclusively call on news business, and only receive commission on total gross profit for the first 30 days of a deals life(Groupon keeps 100% after the 30 days) Once the 30 days are up, no more commission. Granted these are Coupons, so these deals are not going to net a lot of Gross profit in only 30 days. The real profit comes when the deal stays live on the website and gains traction. Their pay is still $32,000. What is really interesting is what they did with the other half of sales reps who have invested just as much time as the other half into starting a sales career for themselves. Based on absolutely no previous performance or sales numbers, Groupon has pigeonholed these reps into account managers who do not have the opportunity to go after new merchants, receive an extremely low commission split and their main duty is to work on deals that were previously just closed by the other half of sales reps that I just explained. Why would a merchant want to work with another sales rep after they just closed a deal a few days ago? On June 1st Our SVP emailed the whole company with a short email stating that our department had to meet about drastic changes within the company. The next morning they told us about the split between the sales floor. The mood in the office today was depressing to say the least because everyone was killing themselves on a daily basis to hit extreme Daily, Monthly, and Quarterly goals only to have their entire books of business wiped clean and taken by Groupon so they can hit their projected numbers for their next Annual reports release. If you just graduated college and are struggling to find a job I understand if you apply to Groupon, because it’s a starting point. But realize there will be drastic changes every 6-8 months and they pay is extremely low. I'm assuming most of you can guess which of the two I was assigned too today.

Pros

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Because who does not love being managed like a toddler?) Location: Groupon HQ (aka Productivity Palace) Review: If you are an Engineer who thrives under constant supervision, then boy, do I have the place for you! At Groupon, I finally found the parental guidance I never knew I needed in my career. Micromanagement? Yes, please! Why be trusted to do your job when you can have the thrill of someone always peeking over your shoulder? It's like having a manager in your keyboard—a truly intimate experience. Jira tickets for every 4 hours? Brilliant! Who needs flow state when you can break your day into perfect little blocks of bureaucracy? Nothing screams "engineering excellence" like turning a coffee break into a documented artifact. Weekly Timesheets? Oh, the joy! Every Friday, I get to relive the week by reconstructing my every move. Did I spend 23 minutes debugging or 27? Let's debate! Bonus: it’s a great way to practice fiction writing. The 5/15 Rituals? Groupon has mastered the ancient art of status worship. What better way to grow as a engineer than by writing five updates a week about what I planned, did, didn’t do, and how I failed? It’s like Agile, but with extra steps and existential dread. Mandatory 3 days in office? Finally, a break from the horrors of home-cooked lunch and flexible hours! There’s nothing like braving traffic for some good old-fashioned chair warmth monitoring. It builds character (and carbon emissions)! In Conclusion: If you’re looking for a place where trust is earned every 4 hours, your life is fully auditable, and productivity is measured in Google Sheets, Groupon is the utopia you’ve been waiting for. Come for the code, stay for the KPIs.

Cons

Management musical chairs—don’t get too attached to your manager, they’ll probably be gone by next quarter. You might start confusing your engineer role with part-time data entry, project manager, and bureaucratic monk.
