Pros

Get to learn a lot quickly

Cons

The company is mostly run by Czech investors. * Company is mostly hiring contractors. * Existing Groupon employees are seen as idiots. * Mostly only hiring Czech employees. * Constant wave of promotion freezes. * Promotion freezes are gone for now and only Czech employees get promoted and especially to senior positions. * A good number of filled positions are friends of the Czech leaders and in some cases have no experience in the role. * Existing employees are over worked since 70% of engineering let go. * Unrealistic deadlines assigned without any consideration for work required or existing workload. * Constant org restructures * Constant change in priorities * Do not apply for Groupon. There is no career path or job security.

Pros

* Prioritizes work life balance; hybrid work model, went fully remote for 2 weeks over the holidays, unlimited pto that pretty much never gets rejected, they are super generous with it * Casual office dress code is nice * Great colleagues, mostly because they’re in the same miserable situation as you * Managers really care, but they aren’t given much to work with because upper management is so clueless * Almost anyone can get a job here, so if you need something fast go for it

Cons

* The most disorganized company I have ever been a part of, at one point I had a new manager 3 weeks in a row * We were told that when we exited their onboarding program, GOB, we would be put on a permanent team immediately. It turns out that it takes over two months to do so * While in this awkward in between stage we were expected to close 2 deals a week. This was extremely problematic when nearly half the leads we were given were businesses that were permanently closed * Due to it being virtually impossible to hit these goals, many bd’s were under constant threat of being put on pips or fired, making an already stressful situation worse * To show you how bad their retention rate is, I will share a quote from the VP: “we hired 160 BD’s last year, out of which 61 remain. This shows that what we’re doing is working.” This is an unheard of level of turnover. The vp said this as if it were a point of pride, further proving upper management’s incompetence * Not a product that businesses want to work with. “We’re going to discount your service by 50%, then we’re going to take 40% of the remainder as our commission, how does that sound?” Overall not a good thing for businesses

Pros

Loved the product I was selling. Loved speaking with savvy business owners and reputable corporations on the daily. Working with the best of the best brands was exciting. I loved the challenge of earning their trust. Loved the work environment. Fun atmosphere. My colleagues made going into work everyday something to look forward to. I was constantly learning from and surrounded by the best of the best. I couldn't have been happier.

Cons

Not sure if this is a "Con", but, it was a little odd to be laid off a week after going on President's Club trip, closing one of the largest deals in 2016 while on maternity leave, and following my best year ever. Neither of my managers had any idea. It must have come from above. When I asked HR in my Exit Interview, " Why am I being let go? How do I explain this to future employers?" I was told, verbatim, "This is a 10% headcount reduction, and you are impacted." That was it. My 5.5 yrs at Groupon was over in the blink of an eye. I was devastated. I truly loved my job.
