Pros

Great benefits, competitive salaries, flexible remote working options, some good people here and there

Cons

Over the last year there have been so many conflicting attempts by different leaders to steer the ship as they see fit. There is so much time and money wasted because people are either in the wrong positions doing subpar work, or in the right positions but not being used to their fullest potential. SO MUCH politics, it's incredibly difficult to get anything done. You have to tiptoe around certain people because they're "important" and you can't upset them, so if they do anything you don't like, you have to suck it up and just do what you're told. Leadership makes such an effort to say how transparent they're being, and then they go off and do/say things you had no idea about until after it's done, when you should have had a say in the matter. Such an awful culture on the whole. Especially lately there have been so many org changes, layoffs, and new hires that no one has any idea what the coming weeks/months/years will bring. Everyone has a conflicting opinion and some people are just allowed to overstep, while others are totally sidelined. The left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing. Outside of leadership being a huge problem, a lot of employees think they're writers when they're not writers, or designers when they're not designers. As a company, Guardian is years behind where it should be. People think they come up with these amazing, novel ideas and solutions when really they're just doing what should be expected of them as the baseline. This is a very large company, so I'm sure people in other positions or on other teams might feel differently, but this what I've seen in my 2+ years so far.

Pros

Flexible work arrangements and corporate philanthropy.

Cons

The founding principles of We Do the Right Thing and People Count is just corporate talk with no substance behind it particularly for employees who were loyal throughout the low interest rate environment which impacted Guardian's financials.

Pros

401K, Work From Home opportunities. Low pressure work environment for the most part.

Cons

They rarely if ever promote anyone up to management internally. They always complain about salaries, yet promptly bring in an AVP or VP from another big insurance company rather than promote someone up internally. Then senior management pats each other on the backs, gives each other the highest possible employee rankings and larger bonuses. They tout as their mantra that 'Our People Count'.. well that means that their 'people' are counting down until they are out of the door as ALL operational jobs are going to one of the five subsidiaries that Guardian Life now has in India. Yup.. they found a way around the whole H1 Visa issue.., with just buying crap tonne of tiny companies in India and then offshore all of the ops jobs over there. If you are a white American male.. you are screwed. Oh, and they had a pension plan.., but starting this year they sunset it for any new employees.., which means that over the next couple of years.. it will vanish completely. But do not worry Senior Managers.. they will keep it for you!!!
