Pros

Leadership, leadership, leadership. I can't say it enough. Leaders make an organization what it is. Treating employees, partners, and clients with care and respect, going above and beyond to listen to staff at all levels, actually taking immediate action with feedback received, providing opportunity for growth for all who want it, and setting a visible example of diligent hard work. HR Works is also growing fast, and in this environment, that means the ability to provide stability for staff and families. During COVID, there were no layoffs, remote/hybrid work has remained an option for most staff, growth continued, and technology was invested in heavily. The environment at HRW is truly like a family, I've never felt so grateful to be able to work with some of the most hard-working, intelligent and thoughtful people that I know everyday. The best part is that each day gets better as you get to know your coworkers and the company's brand grows with its people!

Cons

Growth always comes with challenges, personally, professionally and in business. Growth is also necessary and anything worth having is always sweeter after difficulty. When you have a team dedicated to growth, you have to work as a team to reach your goals together and that's exactly what happens at HR Works everyday.

Disappointing

Pros

Ability to work from home. Kind and helpful coworkers.

Cons

The leave and benefits department is turning into a call center which is not how the department was initially marketed in the interview process. Leadership in the department changes every few months which is chaotic. The current department leadership has made comments to their employees that are disparaging, unprofessional, and hurtful, at times openly questioning their qualifications and character. Feedback is not welcomed on department or company wide changes unless it supports management's view. It feels like there will be retaliation if you are not tractable and agreeable. Many people on the team are overworked and chronically stressed out. The quality of work being provided to clients is poor due to the high workload given to each team member and it is disappointing to know that real people who are often dealing with health issues or family crises are being negatively affected by the services falling short. Multiple client complaints and compliance issues occurring leads to a "putting out fires" environment. The team members for the most part are very hardworking and helpful towards each other except for a few that are toxic and thrive off of negativity. Talented and promising employees are getting burnt out and leaving. Communication and training/onboarding are very disorganized which is made worse by the frequent turnover. Benefits are pricy, PTO is not great and you can't take it with you when you leave even if you work the notice period. The company says there is room for growth and internal mobility but these opportunities don't bear fruit. I was really hoping to enjoy working here because of the great things people have had to say about the company but this department just does not live up to it. It's a really disappointing environment especially in light of the company's good reputation in the community.

Overwhelming, discouraging and becoming more and more toxic daily

Pros

A handful of the co-workers I worked with (some who have since left the company as well) will be lifelong friends. The flexible work schedules are convenient.

Cons

When feedback is given regarding workloads and new systems and processes, it feels as it is not taken seriously, and there is a perception that you are looked upon negatively if you do speak up with concerns or feedback. I was told I should not go to HR with concerns, because anything I share will be shared with the management team anyways. You are given topics that are off limits to discuss with your HR or management team, even though they are well within your rights. It does not feel as if there is any type of confidentiality between HR and employees and you are discouraged to approach HR with questions or concerns. However, if you approach your manager with sensitive information or concerns, the entire leadership team will find out and you will be labelled as a negative trouble maker. The very heavy workloads are burning out employees and causing immense stress. Workloads steadily increase and you are not able to complete work proactively, it feels like you are always on the cusp of drowning if not drowning already. The calculations to determine workload do not consider additional responsibilities and duties from the day to day. The turnover causes more stress with the employees left to pick up extra clients. The quality of work is decreasing by the day. Inconsistent management/policies (ex: some employees in the same title are required to come to the office and others are not and given full remote perks, the roles are very fuzzy and consistently found myself with responsibilities that were outside of my job description, you will be told certain things from one manager but then something completely from a different manager). Things often felt like they were decided on a personal level rather than decided fairly and equally. Many are fearful of the direction the department is moving with all the new processes and systems, people believe we are becoming a call center and this is not what they signed up for. The new systems seem to be very cumbersome and do not flow well with what we do in the department, it feels like it is added work and makes things disorganized. All the new systems are overwhelming employees who already have an overwhelming workload. The new system roll outs are disjointed and disorganized and there is very little training to back up the new systems. Many are unhappy with the micro-managing under new leadership/management in the department. Employees do not feel trusted to do their job and do it well. The constant leadership changes have not been for the better. The environment overall is very toxic. You will hear of and experience rampant gossiping, bullying and drama. Peers and co-workers you feel you can trust turn out to spread rumors about you. This is not a nurturing, supportive environment and you will feel like you are back in high school. I do not feel I was treated fairly or professionally since putting in my notice even after all of my attempts to end on a strong and positive note, it was a very uncomfortable, isolating and a very negative experience and I feel that myself and others that I am close to were not treated with respect. It felt like it was teetering on the edge of a hostile and toxic environment.
